What's the process of changing classes?

When ISIS opens up on Friday, how do I try and change classes? Do I just look for a class I want, and if it's available to I click a "replace" button? Or do I have to drop a class I already have first, before I'm allowed to enroll in a new one?

If you do not exceed the credit limit of 20 (or 21 depending on your school), then you can just add a class. To add the class you want, you must enter the schedule number (the 6-alphanumeric-character code under the course title). I can't remember if they block all first years from changing classes before fall orientation or that was just e-schoolers.

actually isis has a new "swap" feature this semester, you will put in the schedule number of the new course and the course you want to drop and ISIS will swap the courses. if the course you want is full, then ISIS won't drop the other class. Also at least for the college their is a cap of 17credits.

Well according to the CLAS website, the cap is 19. Anyways, I was just explaining that class does not have to be dropped before adding another one.

Did you read the email that was sent out to all students yesterday?
""Swap Feature:" A new "Swap" feature has been added to ISIS that allows you to simultaneously drop and add a class. If the class you are adding becomes full before the "swap" is completed, the other class will not be dropped. Because of this enhancement, the maximum credit load for students in the Schools of Architecture, Education, Nursing, College and Commerce will now be 17 credits. Students wishing to carry more than 17 credits will need to seek permission from their school. Students in the School of Engineering will be permitted to enroll in up to 19 credits."

No, I have not checked my email recently, but I have heard of the swap feature before just not the new credit limits. Thank you anyway.

Cool, thanks.

hmmm, so are e-schoolers not allowed to change classes at all on isis?

All I really want to do is get my STS class at a different time and the time slot I want is still available. Is it going to block me when I do that?

What time friday will it let you start? right at midnight or sometime in the morning?

bump bump bump

jacksonTMN, last year first year students were restricted from changing classes on ISIS after Summer Orientation and before Fall Orientation. When you meet with your advisor in Fall Orientation, the restriction should be lifted. I was not sure if was only an E-school thing because I read somewhere on the UVA website that it was restricted to only us.

Is anyone making any adds/drops/changes tomorrow?

I have to work around a back-to-back CS lab in Olsson Hall and STS class in Alderman Library. By back-to-back, I don't mean ten minutes in between but lab ends when class begins.

Ouch. I'm looking at adding a fifth class...not sure what, yet.

Yeah, I am trying to add a seventh course now. I doubt the system will let me because it would take me over the credit limit, but I'm a little OCD and can't help but try before I go to fill out the increase in credit form tomorrow.

Has anyone else gone over the maximum? Is the process a simple matter of paperwork, or are students' requests often denied?

Why do you want to take seven courses?

I have to take seven courses a semester in order to A: not have to attend summer session and B: graduate from grad school early.

They're all psyc, education, and a couple of gen eds. Not a huge deal. If we were talking math or science I'd probably have offed myself by now.

Don't do it, pizzelle. No one I knew could handle anything above the maximum. They either went insane or withdrew a couple of REQUIRED courses. I would never recommend going above the maximum. Six courses are enough. If you don't want to attend summer session, then there is always J-term. Why do you want to graduate from grad school early?

Lol, yea, those classes don't sound too bad. BTW, have you ever seen thecourseforum? Check it out if you haven't:

http://www.student.virginia.edu/~class07/evaluations/

Are you loling with me in agreement? Or loling sarcastically? I think they'll be a lot of reading, for sure, but I don't think adding ANTH 101 (for instance) is going to crush me under its weight.

I haven't seen that website, I'll check it out. I've been using www.ratemyprofessor.com for a while now though.

UVAMalex09 - Haha, that comment made me laugh. I feel like I'm about to rob a bank and you're trying to stop me from throwing my life away. "DON'T DO IT MAN, it doesn't have to be this way!"

I can always drop if I get incredibly overwhelmed off the bat, right?

I'm lol'ing in agreement. lol.

Thecourseforum is particularly useful because it has grade distributions...although you need to take the actual class into account...
