what's the setting?

Hi, I'm going to attend Penn State this coming fall. I'm from North Carolina and I've never visited Penn State before. I'm wondering can anyone describe the university setting for me please? So I can prepare myself a little when I move up there in couple months. (The only thing I know is it snows a lot and that's about it. LOL)
Thanks in advance.

lol It gets cold in the winter. The campus is much like its own town. I found the campus to be big, but not so big that it's impossible to walk(eventhough they have the blue loop running through much of the day)

Like a Town,,, that's a good way to describe it.

I guess I didn't really see it either even though I took a tour last October,, That's another appeal that made me choose PSU,, It's freaking Huge. I mean who really want's to go to a small school where you can walk from end to end in about 5 minutes.

Damn what an experience this is going to be. PSU is everything you could want in a College, Except maybe Affordiability. but other then that the small college atmosphere could maybe just feel like an extension of High School and that is NOT something I wanted.

Anyways, the College is pretty big, tons of Buildings. tons of people, Tons of Opportunities.

Thanks for the replies.
Still got question.
When you guys say "big", do u mean the entire penn state? what about each seperate campus, including the sub-ones?

No, they mean Penn State - University Park and the town in which it was built, State College Pennsylvania. The college consumes the entire town, the only reason the town is there is because the school is there. I went on a tour in February....found it way too big for my liking, so I'm going to Rutgers NB. Still big, but not as big as PSU. :]

Connie - Have you ever been to UNC/Chapel Hill? We have pleasantly found that PSU's campus and the town of State College share a very familiar setting and similar atmosphere as that of UNC/Chapel Hill.

Tree, cow, tree, cow, cow, tree, tree, tree, cow, Penn State- UP, cow, tree, tree, tree, tree, cow, cow, tree, tree

Thanks for everyone's info.
hardknox1149, yeah, I've been to UNCCH, thanks, now I have a pretty good view in mind about Penn State. It's easier to imagine the place compare to the place I'm familiar with :)
sarit_om, wow that looks kinda... boring... tree + cow + Penn state... I told my mom and she was like "oh, then it's a good place for studying, it keeps ur mind off everything else." LOL

Tell her she couldn't be more wrong....due to the emphasis on sports and football at PSU, it is considered one of the biggest party schools in the country.

yeah, there are places to study but PSU is a big ten party school. it isn't considered "boring" by most standards. it is just the drive and the isolation of the place that is fairly unbearable.
