I'm not sure whether I should go to a LAC or a university. I think I will enjoy LAC's discussion, but it seems that LAC's connection with the outer world is weaker than that of Universities. But huge classes are still not my preference. So,
Is the size of class in UVA big like many other big universities?
Are there enough discussions and small classes there?

UVa is considered a medium sized school, so we're a little different from the big "flagship" type state universities out there.

There are lots of stats about class size and I'll share them, but the current students who post here will have to chime in about the reality. I think that class size varies dramatically based on the academic level of the class (100 level being largest) and the department.

The overall stats:
Roughly 47% of classes are less than 20 students
Roughly 84% of classes are less than 50 students
About 7% of classes are larger than 100

You will be in large classes here, but as you start moving into upper level courses, your classes should get smaller.
