What's the truth about Hume?

I have heard from some incoming freshman at UF that people in Hume have a reputation for: 1) being moderately though not completely antisocial, or at least not nearly as social as other dorms (aka not partying much or just simply not social) and 2) being "strange" or "weird."

Is this true? I'm wondering if maybe Hume is simply being subjected to typical stereotypes by others since its filled with Honors students who are more academic than others. Then again, it sounds like it could be true.

Basically the deal is I'm looking for the best dorm experience in which I can be social and meet friends easily as a freshman. Hume is a nice-looking dorm.

If you are someone you directly know has had upfront experience with Hume, I'd love to hear about it.

haha this sounds like a 20/20 special

sorry i don't have anything relevant to say...

lol your right it does and I didn't even realize it, but I guess thats what happens when I really want a clear answer cause this decision is sort of worrying me.

not true. having co-ed floors really does make it more social.

hume is the most social dorm ive seen

take anything incoming freshmen tell you with a grain of salt

if you have a facebook account, theres a group for incoming freshman who are planning on staying in Hume next year (like me). because after all, its ultimately the interactions that decide whether a dorm is social or not. from what i've seen so far, there will be plenty of socializing...

I can only speak as a mom of someone who lives in Hume, but my son's experience has been good. He has friends all over campus, though, and he's in a frat. He's really good friends with a kid who lives on the other side (same hs) and his suitemate. He says his floor gets together and makes dinners every once in a while, and when I call, many times he's hanging out in the lounge watching TV. It seems quiet whenever we've visited, but we've always visited during the day so...
My son likes meeting people all over, so the dorm he lives in doesn't really matter I don't think.

AdamJW, you said there was a Facebook group for people living in Hume next year...but I can't find it. =(
Any idea what the name of the group is or is it gone?

here is the link to the group:

<a href="http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2278580398%5B/url%5D">http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2278580398</a></p>

you might also want to check some of the discussion topics in this group (the biggest UF '11 i believe):

<a href="http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2226843466%5B/url%5D">http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2226843466</a></p>

hope this helps...

Thank you so much =)

Maybe I can try to make friends before fall...

I agree with you. I was reading over some of the housing discussions in the c/o '11 trend and some are completely wrong some of the information given.

Murphree ---> Close to Library West & Swamp, Not close to dining area but near University which has lots of places to eat. 99% Freshman. Two rooms, one bed in each... connected to eachother. The innermost room has a sink and the other room... well i guess it's perks are the fact that it has the entrance/exit door. Communal bath, communal kitchen. $1958/semester for reg. double room.

this was on the facebook group where the poster gave the inside "scoop" of the dorms--considering he didnt even mention graham/simpson/trusler. A residence area that has a lot of freshmans.

"99% freshmen", I would never be an RA for a floor thats all freshmen. Honestly most of you guys lost your minds when you come to college.
