What's the typical UChicago student?

I know there's no such thing as a generalization, but if someone could just give me the idea of a "typical" student, that would give me a great insight into the student pop. at Chicago, thanks. It seems like a very intellectual, focused atmosphere.

“Intellectual” and “focused” are two good adjectives for a starting point. I would also add “passionate”-- many of my friends spend much more time on EC’s than they do on schoolwork.

U of C students tend to march to the beat of their own drummer, this does not mean that everybody’s walking around with pink hair and dreadlocks (far from it!!!) but I do get the sense that people are off doing their own things and don’t give much thought to how they might be perceived. I think that comes through in the presence/lack of a U of C “fashion sense” and our “lack” of “pretty” or “hot” students. I think our campus can be very freeing that way.

I’m pasting this post by a recent graduate from another adjacent thread because it gives one person’s vivid answer to this question. I’m not certain I agree fully with acidsting13, but something about it rings true. He doesn’t sound “typical” at all, but he does sound representative in his attitude:
