Yes, The Village is M. Knight Shymalan's movie. The dad character at the end of the movie states that he is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. M. Knight Shymalan is from Philly and I read in an interview with him that that's why he used Penn in his movie and is why the daughter in the movie was named Ivy (for Ivy League).

You have to also understand, it's NOT just Penn. Most "common folk" have never heard of Amherst, Williams, University of Chicago, Swarthmore, etc, but does that make those schools any less prestigious? Of course not.

i shiver everytime i read the pretentious prestige whoring posts on this CC forum. O no, people don't know I got into a super competitive smart school. They won't think I'm as smart as the Stanford kid. They will think I'm dumb and just like them. They won't think that I am in the ivy league. I don't get any credit for how awesome and smart I am. Blah blah blah. ****

Yes, I'm pretty awesomely smart myself.

Reeze,

Very good point. Sometimes it's better to undersell yourself.

Yeah, I wish more people would get that message sometimes!

Yeah sanitation workers have great salarioes... or at least in New York. You can't get a job as a garbage man unless you have connections, but thats mainly because its controlled by the mob...

^^that's hilarious! my trashguy works for a mob.....

have you ever heard of laundromat owners working through mobs?

audiophile, I only wish Penn would take me over people who value it solely based on the amount of admiration they can get from classmates

o well, guess I'll find out soon enough

Yes, everyone knows that the sanitation department is run by the mob in NY. In fact, we just talked anout that in my Environmental Economics class last semester. Our professor confirmed this.

39 IB points, 1730 sat 1, 2100 sat 2, some extra curricular activites, need financial aid, am international student

No offense, but almost zero chance.

....actually, I personally have no idea how many people apply from nairobi...

Yeah, I meant to edit it when I noticed the location. That could be a hook. But the scores are very low, and needing FA as an international really hurts your chances.

Thanx, how much would i need to pay to prevent my chances from getting hurt.

You don't make them a deal...you either apply for aid or you don't. It's not really a matter of offering them x dollars...

Thanx again, please if u have any other unis in mind that i have a shot at and their deadline has not passed and they give financial aid, let me know.

As far as I can remember, UPenn has always said they have need-blind fin-aid, so if that is the case, you shouldn't worry about hurting your chances that way. I'm not going to lie to you, but, as others have said, your SATs are a little low and that may or may not be a problem. If you had a (very) strong transcript, you might be able to override the SAT score, especially since you're a international student. At any rate, the applications are in, just wait and see.

The only way you couldn't get in is if you didn't apply.

Thanx a lot man, i feel much better, i have been getting an average of 38 points throughout, and hopefully i can do better on my sat 1. Thanx for the vote of confidence, if u know any other unis with international financial aid, please, please let me know('course their deadlines should not have passed)

To TheSharklord: Although UPenn has a need-blind financial aid policy, it only extends to Domestic students. Internationals get the short end of the stick and it really does hurt them if they apply for financial aid.
