What's the waitlist(for classes) process like at CSULB?

This is my 2nd semester and the first time I need to place myself on a waitlist. At my community college, it was known that if you weren't on the first two positions of the waitlist you shouldn't even bother.

My question is, do people usually get in when they are on the waitlist??

The waitlist goes away once the semester begins, so position is kind of irrelevant.

Also I could be wrong but I don’t believe the system automatically enrolls you once a spot opens up. I waitlisted a class this semester and just kept checking back everyday, eventually a spot opened up so I enrolled  If you’re #1 or #2 I would also email the professor to let them know you want to take the class. Most of the time the professor will work with you since once the semester starts the waitlist goes away and you could be #10 claiming to be #1.
