What's the Work Study Wage Students Receive Per Hour?

Current Hoyas:

I know that undergraduate fed/work study students receive an hourly wage. How much? I've heard different numbers..

Is it possible to have your federal work/study job and at the same time hold another part-time job to you know, earn some money for personal expenses? Or is that completely out of the question?

Also, what sort of jobs are available for fed/work study students?

I have about $3,000 to pay off under work study, which equates to about $250 a month. The way I figure, under DC minimum wage, that's about 37-38 hours a month. (This is under the assumption that they don't tax work-study profit.. if they do, I figure about 45 hours a month..)

That's about 10 hours per week. (under a 40 hour work-month).

Is it possible?

OK, so, you can work two part time jobs, but DC min, wage is like 6.20, so if you have work-study, georgetown pays anywhere between that to about 10 dollars an hour, it depends on your job. I don't believe they take money out for taxes, but I'm not work-study, I have a lot of friends that are though. 10 hrs. a week is just about the required hours per week in order to hold a job, so you should be fine.

I have the same amount under work-study for you, $3000 a year.

Are the hours flexible? And what kinds of jobs does this entail?

$6.20? That's crap.

I got $3000 in workstudy also. At most schools, workstudy is really flexible. You don't have to do very much for a lot of jobs, so it's a good time to get work done. I'm hoping to get my EMT certification so I can do that for my workstudy, and you make $11 an hour doing that. Georgetown has a website which tells you which workstudy jobs pay how much. https://seo.georgetown.edu/content/files/seoclass.pdf

Yeah. I'm hoping for a clerical job, at least not at the first pay level. (I do that sort of stuff anyway in HS... so it's not really a bother.)

6.20 is pretty good if you consider the fact that people make 10 dollars a day in Mexico. For a full time job!

The guy at the financial aid presentation at the open house waid that if you got $8 and worked for 32 weeks, you would have to do 8hrs/week to get the $3000 they usually give in work-study. I jsut got a $2000 scholarship yesterday, so I guess they'll make my work-study $1000 now, so I don't have to worry about getting a job right away.

"Work study" is just money alloted by Gtown and the government for a wage job...it gets directly to you through a paycheck...what you do with it is your deal. I personally have always worked two jobs while doing full-time work...about 30 hours/week. I've had work study jobs that pay me anywhere from $6.50-$10/hour. It's a nice thing. I usually use my checks for food and fun...except for today...the check gets cut on Friday and I just used the funds for my grad school deposit.
