What's there to do here?

I'm making a trip to Vanderbilt University next week with a friend, and along with visiting the college, I'd like to get a sense of the city, and what kinds of things college kids do there. Because I'm staying there for 4 days (3 nights), I will have plenty of opportunities to explore.

Does anyone know specifically what or where I should go in Nashville during my stay? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

sorry, i'm new to the area too, but i know a stop at the pancake pantry is a must. the french toast they have there are really good. it's really close to vandy, on 21st and blakemore/wedgewood

yeah ill echo the pancake pantry stop, u DO need to stop there, be prepared for a pretty good line esp. if you go on a weekend day. what do you like to do for fun? i.e. what kinds of things do you do in the city you live now?

i'm assuming your not 21, so that eliminates many of the fun downtown happenings, however there are some pretty good 18+ spots to hit up downtown if that's your kind of thing. 2nd avenue and broadway in general is a great place to go for downtown. there's lots of restaurants, shops, bars, and clubs in this area. one of my favorite downtown restaurants is the big river (on broadway). another great place to eat if you like real bbq is jack's on broadway. that's a nashville classic for sure. for bars, some of my favorite downtown are barcar, coyote ugly, and graham central station can be fun some nights.

demonbreun/music row is another good area to go. its close to campus and is another strip of bars/restaurants mainly. tin roof is there and is one of my favorites. there's also a chicken place there called otters that is good.

if you like music, when you get to nashville, you should be able to find a "scene" newspaper around. its a free paper that advertises all of the great music happenings going on for the next 2 weeks or so. you can find them either inside or outside of most retail establishments in the direct vicinity of vanderbilt. there's alot of great smaller venues to see live music. and tickets are usually pretty cheap ~$10 depending on the artist. this is how i originally heard of the fray, before they got big. the exit/in is one of their most popular venues and is within walking distance of campus on elliston place.

lastly, one other place you might want to go is logan's roadhouse on elliston. it's a great place for steak, chicken, hamburgers, sandwiches, etc. and the rolls are amazing. elliston place is right behind chili's on west end (you'll definitely see chili's when you're coming into campus)

if there's something you're looking for in particular that i haven't mentioned, definitely ask, i'm just not sure exactly what kinds of things you're interested in.

VM's got it. I'd add: Rotier's on Elliston Pl.

When I visit my sister we go to Noshville on Sunday's. Bread and Co. is excellent and of course Cheesecake Factory at Green Hills Mall.

Those are def some great suggestions and ones that I totally agree with. It's so funny to hear Logan's mentioned as a place to stop. I guess I've basically always lived in the south and I work there during the summer, so it's just another resturant - like a McDonald's, it's familiar. I guess they don't have it up north. Anyway, for some more suggestions. Definitely check out Graham Central Station (18+) if you're there on a Wed or Fri, Sat. I think it's tech open Wed-Sun, but most places like that aren't busy on Thursdays. Also, definitely check out Wildhorse Saloon. I personally don't like country, but I still like this place. You can get food here, there's a bunch of different "floors" or "levels" to the building and on the bottom floor in the dead center is this gigantic dance floor. Well throughout the whole night they teach a whole bunch of different line dances and it's fun, even if you don't like the music they're playing. Plus, the food there is good and the atmosphere is great. Other than that, there are a million little hole-n-the-wall type of cool places all around if you just go walking around. I hope you enjoy your stay!

I second the Rotier's suggestion

As long as we're on food suggestions: for a summer treat, you should, without a doubt, go to Las Paletas on 12th. It's a popsicle store that will blow your mind.

http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=las+paletas&near=Nashville,+TN

Also go out to the Opryland Hotel if you have a chance. It's pretty sweet. There's also a mall out there if you are looking to shop at all.

I remember Las Paletas. I went their once. They have some crazy flavors. I think there was a jelepeno popsicle last time...

Since there seem to be so many suggestions for food, I suggest La Paz. It's an amazing Mexican restaurant right by the Green Hills Mall.
