What's to like/not like?

I am currently in the process of finishing up my college applications (the supplements, to be specific), and am now working on my app for SCU. I am having a bout of writer's block concerning the supplemental "why SCU" essay. I've attempted to do a lot of research on the school, but I've only come up with very generic statements about the excellent quality of education and how happy the students are.

My question is, what is there really to like and not like about the school? Although I've heard a lot of good things about the school, nowhere have I read what sets Santa Clara apart from the other schools. I'm looking for some people to tell me why the education is so great and what there is to love or not love about the community. If you went/currently go to SCU, what aspects persuaded you to attend?

Go on the school website and read about the Residential Learning Communities (RLC) and also about the schools commitment to community service.

DD likes the fact that the professors and other students are very approachable. Everyone works as a team. The school is small enough to feel comfortable and large enough to offer options.

Also, for her, the strength in science courses (engineering) was particularly luring.

DD tied her essay into the things she liked and the things she was hoping to do differently in the four years she was in college (and how SCU would play into those things...e.g. she wanted to experience a different part of the country in a good learning environment).

In addititon to thumper's suggestions, you could emphasize the Jesuit education even if you are not a Catholic. Research the topic and look for what appeals to about the Jesuit style of educating and learning.

Other things SCU has to offer:

*one of the fittest student populations in the US
*one of the best frosh/soph retention rates in the US
*a historical and supremely beautiful campus that is in the heart of Silicon Valley and just a short train ride from San Francisco. Both of these details will add to your ability to secure work/internships.

Good Luck!

Thanks to both of you for your help. I have now written and submitted my essay. Wish me luck!

Best of Luck!!!

Good luck!!

Like:
GORGEOUS CAMPUS
small class size
excellent professor-student relationships
Professors are really into their work
One of the fittest colleges in the country
In Silicon Valley
Dorms are awesome, most of the time
Near San Francisco

Dislikes:
TOO strict about underage drinking
Party scene is decent, Parties get broken up WAY to early
Somewhat diverse, but does need more diversity
School spirit is decent
Not that well known nationally

Steve NASH! :D sorry couldn't resist. Can't help you much on this but I'm applying and planning to visit the campus. Do you think you can visit? it would give an idea of what it's like to be there.
