What's too low?

Well I will be retaking the SAT in october and iI'm trying to see if its worth it to apply to Harvard even if I don't get above what I have right now which is 2100 (660 CR, 700 M, 760 W). Do I even have a chance? (I do have decent ECs, but no amazing awards and I have a 4.0 uw GPA)

anybody?...

i had a 2090 and got in :) so yes you do have a chance

A 2000 here.

I have a feeling that these two got in because they had amazing hooks... ^.

i'm Sikh so that is a minority but that also makes me East Indian which is not a minority

Most people who get in, with any scores, have amazing hooks. So that comment isn't necessarily fair . . .

And anyway, 2000 and 2090 are strong scores.

saxfreq is absolutely right. Harvard is not lying when it says the majority of accepted students have scores between 600 to 800 on each section of their SAT Is and SAT IIs. Admissions officers really try to look for the strengths in each application, not the weaknesses in each application. Just put your best foot forward and hope for the best, while still being realistic.

Harvard students all have awesome hooks. Yes.

I just assumed that since the average score to get in at Harvard is much higher, those two would've had ridiculously good hooks...

And now to hijack the thread...

My friend is ranked 21/150. Is that too low for Harvard? He also knows the dean of the Woodrow Wilson school at Princeton. Do connections like that help people get in?

"Your friend's" rank is within the top 15% of his class, which is what the majority of Harvard's accepted applicants have. Because this is Harvard, and not Princeton, I would doubt that "your friend" would have any sway over Harvard's admissions committee. Big names do not usually help anyone's application unless the recommendation actually says something about the student.

This is actually my friend by the way. Just want to make that clear.

And about the Princeton thing, I meant how much do connections like that help in general (for example if he wanted to apply to Princeton).
