What's unique about emory? and why would you choose this school over others? just curious if i should really apply...

the weather is great, housing is much cheaper than most others big cities

its close to the cdc

it depends on what you’re interested in.

well i’m interested to know if there are any classes in Emory that other colleges don’t. for example, i know cornell has a wine tasting class for the hotel kids and that seems to attract a lot of people… i’ve heard from CC that emory lets you choose youre own topics for english classes?

i’d like to know as well. besides the perks that come from its location, what sets emory apart from other top schools?

I really don’t have many ideas on this as I don’t know too much about the other schools (and perhaps not even enough about Emory yet, despite being a sophomore). This is tough to ask anyone going to a particular school. You’d get lucky if a transfer student replied. My roommate, for example, transferred from Northwestern.
Overall, this may be moreso answered by intense personal research.

And yes, I said that about the Freshman English courses. There are various topics to choose from, especially if u choose comparative lit. I think the English program as a whole is pretty comprehensive too. However, this may not be very special. You’ll probably end up using AP credit anyway.

One thing, that may be common between all top schools that I observed was that there are some History/Political Science courses are taught in both English and another language. I thought that was kind of cool. I don’t know, search through the course atlases of depts. that interest you and see if you find anything intriguing. It’s what I do, and it is what determines what random humanity(ies) courses I plan to take per semester.

Take your pick of a department and then browse their course atlas:

So many languages to choose from!

Also as a new parent to Emory and an existing parent of a state school student - one thing really stands out - the personalized attention my student receives - All the advisors from Dept. chair to a student in each grade, tons of detailed information to parents and students. Very impressed so far!
