What's up with the housing situation?

I don't understand it at all. If an admitted student to UF hasn't heard back from other schools, why on earth would they pay for any sort of housing?

I've heard that students have to pay $25 for housing, and then $200 for a contract. The deadline for both (or one?) was due today, so I guess that means I'm automatically in the pooling for a triple late room in a sucky dorm?

This isn't supposed to be a rant about the fallacy of UF's housing situation for incoming freshmen (although I wouldn't mind some reasoning from current students). My main question is: what happens in April when all other schools deny me, forcing me to attend UF, yet I didn't pay any of the housing fees?

Thanks!

I’m an incoming freshman, so I may not be the best person for this. But I’m pretty sure the fact that you didn’t submit your $200 by your due date means that on-campus housing isn’t guaranteed to you. If you pay the deposit, then housing is completely guaranteed. I agree that the system is flawed (it didn’t affect me because I was set on UF), but I think it’ll be tough to get decent - or any - housing now that you didn’t pay.

you live off campus. trust me, you’re not really missing out. if you want to get back on campus you can try next year.
