"If I myself called it ignorant terminology, how could you think that it is ignorant?"

This statement makes absolutely so sense at all. Would you call someone a fag, say oops that was offensive, and expect them not to be offended? You're starting to sound like Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy. Pretty soon you'll be in rehab for your "condition."

Meaning, if I know that its ignorant, why would he call me ignorant; Ignorant implies that I dont know.

no, ignorant means you dont UNDERSTAND the implications of what you are saying. Or would it have been more appropriate if i called you a homophobe or a biggot?

Though the average is 30, we have to remember that the status quo has changed a lot. Colleges love to have high matriculation rates, so as students apply to more and more schools, the matriculation rates of colleges will decline. BUT, what colleges can do to fight that is to accept fewer RD, and waitlist more, essentially allowing them to control the matriculation rates.

The one problem with that theory, however, is that if a college waitlists a strong student who has likely been accepted by other colleges, it's not always a guarentee that this strong student will pursue the waitlist. On the other hand, Columbia has no shortage of qualified applicants, so that problem may not be a big one.

bboy...You knew what you were doing or you would have never excused your "ignorant terminology". Next time I recommend using the backspace and delete keys. Happy would have been much less offensive!

I was looking through some of the numbers I coud find, and I noticed that CC accepted the same number of people ED as last year, but 50 fewer RD.

Perhaps they did it so they could have the lowest admit rate and are planning to go to the waitlist (at least for more than six people). Also, with the number of schools students apply to creeping up every year, more people may have applied without Columbia being their first choice. But then again, maybe admissions tried harder to make sure they were admitting people who would enroll if they got into Columbia.

That's all just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take more than 6 people off the waitlist this year. (I hope they do.)

fhimas88888888 & luce373 both offer interesting and HOPEFULLY true speculations!

haha, let's just stop fighting about the "ignorant" term and be friends during this stupid waitlist period. =)) aiite?

this is a forum about the waitlist not ignorance and racism, you want to talk about that start a new thread, dont bog down this one cause some people are intrested in the waitlist

Ok, what does URM stand for?

under-represented minority

To all I apologize. Once again, I do understand what I said and how dumb it was to say, but as someone above pointed out, I shouldve reached for the backspace button. Though the term is embedded into my vocabulary as a both positive and negative term (like many classmates, gay or not), it certainly does not excuse me. But yea lets all focus on the waitlist. Im pretty anxious...

Question: Does anyone know how they would notify us if by some crazy chance we get off the waitlist? Phone? E-mail? Letter? Morse Code?

Back in the day (way back three years ago), it was an e-mail, and at the bottom of it, they said that a paper copy was being mailed the next day.

Oh. I heard from the 2004/2005 years there were just the FedEx superpackage thingies. You're probably right. But that would suck lol if you delete your inbox cuz you only see spam...

under-represented minorty

??? what is that a response to? the URM question/

Yes... that's really odd - I got an email update saying that was the last post; I responded. Sorry bout that.
