I’m wondering if Penn’s early decision program actually has less rigorous standards than regular decision, or if it is like Harvard/Yale/Stanford and is much harder to get into, as competition is fiercer.

If so, is it because they see interest in the college as a plus?

Penn expressly states you have a better chance of getting into Penn through ED. This is because they care a lot about whether you're really interested in Penn or simply applying in case you don't get into Yale. The quality of student life has greatly improved at Penn since they started filling it with people who actually wanted it as their first choice...go figure!

Penn will never drop ED and maintain where it is in the rankings. Penn will fill nearly 1/2 of the class early as past statistics have shown. Of the class of 2,400, around 1,150 will be admitted through ED.

I think (no evidence but my own opinion) that strategically speaking... the common app was introduced so that they can increase their adm. rate... more apps = more people to reject, therefore making Penn appear even more selective.

sry im sure this has been asked many times before
but it wouldn't matter to Penn whether i use common apps + their supplementary forms or their own specific apps right?
