what's ur GPA when u got into Haas this year?

i really want to get into UCB Haas,
but i don't have 4.0 GPA....
i want to know what GPA everyone got when they got Accepted by Haas...
and estimate my chance...
cuz i gonna apply it for next year...
so try to grab more information as much as i can....
hope u guys can help me...

i don't have a 4.0 either... got in...
but meh... not having a 4.0 is really scary... trust me i've been thru that for a long time...
as long as your hands are not touching the limit you should be scared...
i bet you have seen how many 4.0s got rejected just on this forum alone

i think ur main concern now is to increase ur GPA as much as possible and see what u can do to increase ur chances by internships or w/e

there are many people that say oh u gotta join 34958439 clubs and be president of AS and president of every donkey club out there. do so much internships gain so much so much experience

to be honest. all i did was be myself in the application... share my life experiences...
i wrote from what i felt deeply... my supplementary essay would seem VERY controversial.. but hey i think its the boldness that got me in...

congrats to you again!
I agree with Guardiangel: Just be yourself.

I have a 4.0 gpa, although I have calculus in progress.
I really didn't think I would get accepted, waiting to do calculus this semester. Haas is looking for more than a high gpa: judging from my own experience, I think they are looking for those with demonstrated leadership ability, personal motivation and the ability to communicate oneself clearly (through the essays).

What I want to know is how you manage a 4.0 while still joining all these clubs and doing internships and on top of that enjoy some sort of leisure/social time. Then again, Haas is my dream so I'd sacrifice that to do whatever I can to get in.

yeh... well i think i mentioned somewhere wonder if i m wrong

but i had a strategy in mind

3 essays means 3 opportunities for them to discover what kind of person i am

first essay u establish ur motivation and interests
second essay i showed leadership skill, altho that was years ago i think it showed my potential
3rd essay was a double edged sword... i either made it or didn't... i chose the one about diversity at haas instead of the leadership one since i thought my 2nd essay shoulda more or less done that... and right when i was writing the essay i was taking sociology... so that played a major role in my views and opinions about it. then again it was very controversial... a very scary double edged sword...

well i won't say i planned this from the beginning... but i guess it all fell into place...

dek is right, the ability to communicate is crucial...
you have to throw your ideas and opinions at them... and make sure they leave a strong impression and stick onto them...

one thing i alwaes hear UC advisers say... oh exaggerate urself... or "its ok to boast... be proud of urself"
i don't believe in that... if i think it deserves consideration, i mention it. i don't go on and on saying how great i am saving the world and the world would end without me. another thing advisers say is oh u can butter them and brown nose ur way in.
lol it doesn't work that way.
this year i heard 1800 applicants... how many of them do u think brown nose in their essay? how about the huge % who didn't finish their pre reqs... what do YOU think they wrote in their essay? lol yup u guessed

so bottom line do what ur interested in. u don't have to join every business related club. just be urself. if u like guitar and i play hours and hours and go for gigs, write it down. it shows them about YOU.

people try to be too obvious sometimes... for the admin i think it kinda gets boring after a while if u know what i mean.
"business club president... oh another business club president... hey heres another one... oh the next 10 applications too !"

u think haas is gonna be a school of student body presidents and business club presidents? heck no lol

Did anyone have a W and get into Haas? I haven't even started CC yet but I took a Business Stats class after my sophomore year in HS before I dropped the class for a W. I hear one or two isn't going to hurt me at all but is the fact that it's Haas or that it's a Business Stats class (prereq?) going to hurt me at all?

I never have a sleep in during the last 14 months. 7 hours of sleep would be sufficient. It is not impossible to have a 4.0 while joining all those clubs and internships. I came to U.S. two years ago, and my English was horrible. My situation was much worse than you guys, but I finished 72 semester units within a year and got straight A's. I don't have any internships, but I worked as a accounting and math tutor, started my own Entrepreneur Club, to name a few. I am not a genius guy. If I am able to do this, there is no reason you guys can't. Just remember: be positive, be diligent, be strong, and be yourself.

come to think of it... i had a W >_> first or second semester...

they probably thought... hey we kinda need a slacker in the school and threw my application in the accepted pile LOL kidding...

it won't hurt u if it was from long ago

as long as ur grades and course work remains a positive slope.
course work load also has to increase gradually... then you must also show interest in finishing their reqs...

some people wanna impress by tanking tons of units... and i m not mis spelling... i m talking about tanking the units... those of u that MMORPG u can laff now...

yeh and they do bad in that semester... i think it cannot get worse than that...
ur not applying to impress... if ur not up to the par... then hey... what can anyone do?

hmm...you say the course work load should increase gradually but I plan to take a lot of classes while I'm still in high school so that I won't have to take a lot later on when I actually get into CC so I can focus on doing well on just a few classes per semester and have enough time to do internships/clubs. Will this look bad on my application at all?

erm even things out... don't do a ton of stuff in HS then slack in college...
it should be pretty evened out
i would think they give preference to course work finished in a CC than HS AP.
even if u take college courses in HS thats fine but... iknow too many that get Bs in a CC while attending HS.
although it may look like ur hardworking and very enthusiastic... in the end the numbers do the telling... B = screw u over... and thats that

I had a W last semester in precalculus. I tested out of the class, but I still thought that would be my downfall. Thankfully, they saw past it. I think one or two W's which are sufficiently explained wouldn't hurt you too much.

When you submit your app I assume that you have to put in the date of when each class was taken? Hopefully they will see that it was back in high school and not think much of it. Do you explain it in your personal statement or is it even necessary to explain it at all? Assuming you are in my position and got a W for a class you took like 3 1/2 years ago.

hongda... trust me i was in a worse situation than u....
but ur hardcore 72 units a year i doubt i can even compete...

one thing i agree with hongda is being strong...
i m not positive... if u've seen my previous post... i m a realist... i calculate by probability and numbers... i don't over estimate my chances so it doesn't hurt if i fall...
we all have our own ways of coping with the wait time... but what we all have in common is our desire to get in... we all have our own reasons too

but the most important like hongda has mentioned... is staying strong...
nomatter how tough situation is... it might sound "stubborn and stupid" but i'll quote from george bush... "stay the course". thats all there is to it

i had too many friends wanting to go to berkeley haas.... in the end i was the only 1 that applied from that initial group of friends... everyone gave up 1/2 way...
"oh UCI econ is easier i'll head there... oh psych major doesn't have that many different course req i'll go there..."

if u want something... nothing can stop u...
in the end... its about who wants it more...

cuz i have to support myself...
so except going to school...
all the rest of my time...
i am working in the UPS Store...
so i can't joint any Club and being their meeting...
so i can't even have any activity like VP of some club or sth....
is that will hurt me a lot....
should i going to quite my job and joint some club in school
so get more chance to get into HAAS?

It's different though, Hondga just came here 2 years ago, he has everything to look forward too, He hasn't built really any reputation like say the rest of us among our friends and families, he can devote ample time to school. I'm not trying to knock you down Hondga I'm glad you got into HAaS, and what you've accomplished. I guess you can say you were more fortunate in that sense.

To jackinthebox to extend on Guardian's Advice, You don't even need all those Ec's or President of companies. You need to be able to articulate a compelling story of something that pertains to you, maybe even just a fond memory of going some where and how you experienced then correlate that with going to Haas. You could even use a philosophical metaphor that contains a lot of meaning. that could spark interest in the Admissions. Be you on the paper, and elaborate every detail which is what I think Guardian probably did.

jackinthebox: You don't have to join every club and become president of your school, but you do need to make some sacrifices to get into Haas. I worked 80 hours a week during the summer so I could take time off during the school-year to focus on ECs and school. I've supported myself 100% since the day I graduated from highschool, so I know it's not easy. In the end, when Haas is reading your app and they see how mature you are and all the sacrifices you've made while maintaining excellent academic progress, they will know you are the type of person they are looking for.

They're claiming that you guys have it easy. Defend your fellow Haas transfers!!!

hey jackinthebox, you don't need to join a club or be that involved in your school to get in. a counselor at my school said there was a girl who worked full time while going to school full time, got all As, no extracurriculars. she got into dartmouth, brown, and johns hopkins.
