What's W2 form?

Hello everyone. I am a Canadian citizen. Is W2 American thing? The collegeboard asks me to send W2 form, but I am not so sure what it is. Please help. Thanks

It's a statement of earnings/taxes paid etc. for the entire year that your employer sends you, usually early in the next year, that you use for filing tax returns. They are asking for the W-2 form? or just information from it?

w2 form is what you fill out if you are paid on a wage. If you didn't fill out a w2 form, then you don't have to send it to collegeboard.

from wiki:

[quote]
Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, is used in the United States income tax system as an information return to report wages paid to employees and the taxes withheld from them. The form is also used to report FICA taxes to the Social Security Administration. Relevant amounts on Form W-2 are reported by the Social Security Administration to the Internal Revenue Service.

Employers must complete a Form W-2 for each employee to whom they pay a salary, wage, or other compensation as part of the employment relationship. The Form W-2 reports income on a calendar year (January 1 through December 31) basis, regardless of the fiscal year used by the employer or employee for other Federal tax purposes.

Oh thanks. I've never worked for an employer all my life. Except for working at a family business without getting paid. Thanks for your help.

Yes , but your parents may have their W-2. If you are doing the CSS profile (through Collegeboard), they do ask for student's financial information as well as parent's.
