<p>I’m not sure what exactly finance entails, but I know economics is very theoretical and philosophical.</p>
<p>It teaches you how to think about and approach problems, but the models are always very basic and hardly terribly practical. Most of the macro courses already assume rational actors that are already maximizing profits. Game theory is probably useful for an individual actor to understand, but the ‘choices’ and ‘payoffs’ are hardly so clear.</p>
<p>The major basically teaches you critical thinking skills and learning how to learn - much like other liberal arts majors.</p>
<p>I remember I was on an interview once where the VP of the company was telling me “yeah, the finance work here can all be taught; I’m not worried about that. Hell, even the finance majors who come here can’t do it at onset anyway.” I had already proved I had great math skills, though.</p>

<p>In this thread is class warfare writ large, or small given the sizes of certain posters’ craniums. One is going to college to get the degree which will enable one to make more money. If finance pays, so be it.</p>
