What's with all this competition? ....

I swear, it seems about 10 specific students at my school are trying to beat each other out as far as grades and classes. And we're only in 10th grade!

Funny thing I noticed too is that they are all girls. One of them in my Law class got a 95% on her test and was really upset. I would be jumping for joy if I got a 95%! That same girl has a 104% in that class, so I don't know what she is complaining about.

What makes me a little mad about it though is that they break curves on APUSH on tests. I needed a curve on the last test because I got a 66% on it, and because a girl in 5th period got a 100%, that never happened.

My teacher told her she better start running because no one likes curve-breakers. :)

I guess I want to know why is there competition? High School should be fun (well, actually not so much for me). I think our school still does valedictorian and ranking, but it seems asinine to me that students get like that, especially so early on in high school.

I'm a curve breaker at school, but people still love me!

But yes, I can see why your pretty upset over their behavior. I can understand, maybe, acting that way junior or senior year, but sophomore? Seriously? Tell them to get a life, and walk haughtily away.

.-_-.

One of them is taking 4 AP courses having already taken (only a sophomore) one previously in 9th grade. That's crazy to me. I don't think she has a life lol. School is her life.

I can't see why people need anything better than 94% (one point above barrier for solid A) -- sounds like pure non-sense. Yet I'm taking four AP courses as a sophomore and manage to even have some life, except day before test of course.

I guess she's a perfectionist, not to mention smart as hell. A 95% must not be good enough to her.

I'm perfectly happy with my 89.5% A's. :)

That's the story of my school. I know people who have cried over 90s.

Yep, one person got an 88% on her report card in English and broke-down and cried. And that was only for Interims (1/4-way into a semester).

Wait, so you guys don't cry?! :D

Exactly. What's the difference between 99% A and 89.5% A? No difference, so why pay more.

Life on Earth is too damn short to be crying about grades.

Good thing I'm a senior. No more SATs. Still gotta do those college apps, but it's all downhill after Christmas. Then I'll be chillaxin.

Whee

Wow. That's too much perfectionism.

And four APs as a sophmore? Which four are they?!

Yea, my school is definetly not like that. Probably cause I live in one of the poorer suburbs in our area.

"Funny thing I noticed too is that they are all girls. One of them in my Law class got a 95% on her test and was really upset. I would be jumping for joy if I got a 95%! That same girl has a 104% in that class, so I don't know what she is complaining about."

Different people have different expectations.

What kind of Sophomore takes 4 APs? My school only offers one for Sophomores: AP Euro. I think that's enough. Which 4 are they?

My school and the teachers automatically assume all sophomores do not take APs. :D

Kaatu Bara Nikto, her name is Rachel and she takes AP Physics B, AP Calculus AB, AP U.S. History, and AP U.S. Government. Our school doesn't really care how many AP's you take...she took AP Chemistry in 9th grade.

She has showed me her report card and not one of her grades was below a 98%.

I can't imagine what college she wants to go to. I'll have to ask her lol.

There's nothing wrong with competition. However, if they start sabotaging each other, that is not a good thing. This actually happened at my school. A girl asked to borrow my notes and then didn't return them, even after I asked for them back. I never let her borrow anything of mine again.

Jman2306, if shes so smart, why doesn't she take AP Physics C or BC calc? I would think those might challenge her...

Taking AP Calc, Physics B, and AP Chem before you're an upperclassman is crazy ...

kirklandalanbob, our school does not offer Calc BC or AP Physics C yet. My school is somewhat new and it doesn't have that many students (under 900), so there are only 8 AP classes.
