whats with the room assignment?

is there a way to change roommate? I filled out housing application really early and confirmed my friend as a roommate. However, i received an email and it has someone else’s name. What should i do so that my friend is my roommate? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

This link – [Rutgers University Housing Residence Life](http://housing.rutgers.edu/ie/?page=content/CurrentStudents/Undergraduate/CommunityLiving/RequestingARoomChange.php)

However, at the moment they don’t have the form up for Fall 2010. The page just mentions about the past semester. I think they did this on purpose considering they know some freshman might be dying to switch rooms or campuses since assignments came out =</p>

Did both you and your friend put each others RUID on the roommate request part of the housing application? If you both didn’t list each other with id numbers they ignore it

yes we did put each other’s RU-ID. I have no idea why they would do this.

Did one of you request special housing, honors or special interest? If one of you did and the other person doesn’t qualify, that might be a reason why you were separated.

could have just been a mistake… for the longest time my immunizations records were messed up because somebody keyed the date for my MMR immunization in wrong… it happens… give them on a call tomorrow

No we did not have any special housing or honor housing…

I just called the housing office and they told me that I won’t find out for another 1 to 2 weeks. ■■■

Did they give a reason why??

They seemed to insinuate that it was because I’m a transfer, though they also told I wasn’t the only one to not be notified. She did stress that it could be earlier and just to keep checking oncampus.rutgers.edu

alright thanks, this is getting pretty annoying now.

I emailed the housing office and got an email back saying, the rooms are full right now but they expect people to have cancellations whatever that means.

Yeah, I got an email saying the same thing. What do you think about the temporary lounge dorm option? I’m thinking about just taking that for time being.

Is the temp lounge dorm option in the Towers? One thing I noticed was the lack of a lock (opened by a key) on lounge doors so I never understood how they got around that, but the lounge has a kitchen so I guess that’s pretty sweet.

I didn’t get any details about it whatsoever, however, I expect that it would basically be a really big room with like 4 roommates and a locking door. I’m calling first thing tomorrow morning. If the lounge has a kitchen, I don’t know if we could use it. They might disable it because fire hazards and codes and such unless they can just separate that section. The new Busch housing really can’t come soon enough.

They told me I am position #29 on the waiting list. I may still yet a spot before the year starts.

I think you will. I’ve personally had 2 roommates switch dorms in August before getting my final roommate for the year.

Yeah, with 13,000 or so students in housing, having 29 of them skip out on housing doesn’t seem like it would be that hard. TAG grants went down, so maybe some people will change to commuter status to save money. I just don’t want to be placed on Cook because it’s so much of pain to get to Busch from there!

I have a bad feeling that I’m not going to get housing which really gets me mad. If you can’t fit the students then don’t accept them, I don’t get it.

Call them (the housing assignments office - 732.445.0750) and find out where you are on the waiting list. Maybe you’re number 1!
