Whats worse a C or a W?

Im taking 16 units this semester and Im doing well in most of my classes but I'm worried about my english 103 grade. Im thinking I might end up with a C or D at worst. This is my third semester at a JC and will probably transfer in 2014. Would it be more beneficial to drop the class with a "W" and take it over with an easier professor? Or should I Possibly risk getting a C? also in my first semester I got my first ever F and im really trying to build from that so Im wondering if an F and W would hurt more or a mediocre GPA?

From what I know, a C isn’t all that bad. However, If I had a choice between a D and a W, I’d take the W. Same goes with an F. Having a W is far better. If you think you can pull off a C, stay in. You can make up the extra points elsewhere. You also have to consider where you think you’ll eventually apply to. Will the university be within the area of your CC, or outside of it? If it’s within your area, they usually have less stringent GPA requirements. However if you think you want to apply outside of your area, then try to get that GPA as high as you possibly can. If that means you have to spend more time at the CC and you aren’t necessarily under any time constraints (i.e. a nagging gf), then by all means take your time. It’s better to have a higher GPA over a longer period of time rather than rush through and have to retake courses. But in the end, just do your best.

Hope that helps!

Good luck!

Is this your first W? If so, go for the W! In my opinion a W looks better than a C any day, especially if it’s only your first. Think about it, a W doesn’t factor into your GPA and you can always justify why (personal illness, transportation issues, etc.) Also, if it’s your only W on your transcript you probably won’t even have to explain why it was received.
