So I am just trying to figure out what I should do tonight. I am applying ED to a school where subject tests are “recommended” but I come from and affluent school so I know that means they are required for the most part. My questions is just if it would be better for me to send 2 scores 1 score or no scores if my scores were not very good and if I would still have a chance at the school in any of those scenarios. I got 690 US History, 720 Math I and I know those are not amazing scores so I was just wondering if I should send them to the school or just not send them. And yes the school does allow score choice so they wouldn’t be mad at me if I didn’t. Also it is an Ivy school if that matters.
You’ve asked the million dollar question that many here ask, and no one can really answer because it’s anyone’s guess how an admissions officer will consider this. One thing we can surmise is that for schools that “recommend” subject tests, many will indeed submit 2 and many of those scores will start with a 7.
Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful…
Also how accurate do you think the prep scholar ranking of sat subject tests is. I would link it but I do t know how. But essentially they rank all the top colleges sat subject test requirements from required to recommended to considered. My tip school, UPenn, is ranked as a considered. Do you think that is accurate because if it is I probably don’t want to send my scores because those are scores I don’t want to be considered.
@ThinkOn ok that’s what I’m afraid would be told. I don’t think I will send them and then retake them ins ecmber for if I get deferred.
Why rely on blogs and third party sources for information…go straight to the source. UPenn’s admissions website states:
Recommended Testing: SAT Subject Tests are recommended but not required. Applicants who do not take SAT Subject Tests will not be at a disadvantage in the admissions process.
Given that you come from a affluent school, that second sentence doesn’t apply to you. I think the Math 1 score is submit worthy. The US History one is a bear as it will require you to re-remember an enormous amount of random facts, and even then, they could throw even more random facts at you that you never even had a chance to review. Is there another subject you could take? Lit? a Language?
@ThinkOn ya I agree with the us history. I think I’m going to take math 2 and bio in December as those are the classes I am doing th e best in and or did the best in. I wqe just wondering for my ED app if I should send all the sat subject test scores or just do none and pray I get in or deferred. Also my school is pretty affluent. We are still public though and we have probably 20 percent of people on free or reduced lunch.
For Math 2, get the Dr. Chung’s book and then take the practice tests in the Barrons book. For Bio, go through the Barrons book and take the practice tests in Princeton Review. These are the strategies my son used to get his 800’s. Good luck!
