What's worth putting in an update?

My principal told me today that I'm a National Merit finalist. Last week he nominated me for a county Superintendant award. Are these worth putting into an update letter to send? They're not very special for me personally, just a matter of course. Plus, I don't want to annoy the admissions officer with too many papers. What d'y'all think?

I definetly think that's worth an update! Congrats!

OK, National Merit finalist is a HUGE thing. That easily merits a letter. Congrats!!

good job! that is worth putting in.

are you guys sending an email or post?

are you guys sure that national merit finalist is going to be that impressive in the eyes of a harvard admissions officer?

i, too, am a finalist (yay! our school produced 8 this year) but only 1000 semifinalists got kicked out of competition...so the competition really wasn't all that stiff.

of course, i'm definitely sending the update letter, but i'll also be mentioning my nomination for the Washington Scholars Award and for NISCA Academic All-America. as far as I know, 2 other apps from my school, both female asian-americans--just like me. yeah, i think only one washingtonian got in EA.
