Ive read many things and posts about the notoriety(sry cant spell today) of Milton Academy. whats wrong with it? Should I consider it if I get in???

idk, i guess it's a lot more loose compared to the other schools...
whatever, it's still one of my top choices, i really liked it... if i get accepted i'll probably go!!! (unless hotchkiss or like, exeter accepts me).

There was a major sex scandal there a few years ago which is probably what folks are referring to. Google around - it won't be hard to get info. (note that various sources will have their various biases)

It's undeniably an excellent, first rate school. The families I know with kids there are all very sophisticated when it comes to education, and they are very happy with the school.

I just searched about the incident...why in the world would milton expel them? ooo no a 16 yr old got head from a 15 yr old mutually. Maybe expel the 18 yr old guy and suspend the others or something.

i can understand why milton would want to punish them, but EXPELMENT seemed pretty extreme. maybe they already had a history with trouble? i don't know, and we're not really to judge..

i read somewhere that milton seemed really laid-back or something.. and that it seemed like a public high school. the commenter said it in a sort of bad (in my perspective) way, so um, you can try to search that up somehow .. dig back a few pages? google it?

milton seems like a good enough school. there will always be biases for every school, so don't be discouraged. some people love .. choate, while others hate it. if you get in, then you should DEFINITELY consider it. it's a great school, and the scandal was like, 5 years ago, soo.. (and i don't think it's that uncommon of a thing? haha)

Thanks, Bill Clinton!

.. ? :/ (tenchar)

Bill clinton...sex scandal...Bill Clinton

get it? lol

The boys committed statutory rape, whether the incident was consensual or not. The girl was 15, and the others were at least 16, the legal age of consent in the U.S. Though this happens often and is rarely brought to criminal charges, it is ILLEGAL and therefore legal action should have and did take place. I'm not saying that I agree that the boys should be punished and expelled and the girl just gets to move on, but that's just one of the flaws in the legal system. And who knows? Maybe the girl was being taken advantage of or being blackmailed or forced in another way to act the way she did. Whether or not, the law was broken.

If the girl consented, I'm sure she had an awful reputation upon returning to school, for getting people's friends kicked out while she got off the hook, and for simply having low moral standards.

This is the only incident I have ever heard of occurring at Milton. This is an incredibly rare happening, and many schools have occasional "scandals." (I'm thinking of the St. Paul's hazing issue a few years back, and the Groton thing even further back...) It's certain kids that do not define the student body as a whole. The students who were attending during this incident will all be gone by next year. Of course you should continue to consider it! Awesome school with great academics, and this unfortunate event does not define the school, nor do the people affiliated with Milton allow it to.

It's not the us legal age of consent. Every state has their own legal age of consent

Texas is 17 california is 18

Vatican City is 12... let's all think about that :)

in Yemen its 9 lmao. Bad images.

Peace

Check any Prep school handbook; you will find a prohibition on sex.

If you break the rules and are caught, you are gone. Remember that at Prep School you are the guest of the administration. They decide if you stay or go. The contract your parents signed specifically states that violation of handbook rules is grounds for immediate expulsion. Local/state laws are irrelevant.

Your parents are paying for a quality academic education. When sex spins out of control and students are feeling pressured to participate in activities they are not comfortable with or ready for, the focus on academics is lost.

Get over it. If you push the sex button indiscriminately, you will be shown the door.

The age of consent in Massachusetts is 16 for females.

It was actually a birthday present for one of the guys

I’M BRINGING THIS THREAD BACK BECAUSE IT IS HILARIOUS. yeah I go to Milton and yeah we have had an assload of scandals so ask me about them, because people tend to overblow them.

Bahahhahahahaha

Fun is fun you am teh man!
