What's Wrong With My This?

I went to a public high school similar to BHS. ~25 kids in my graduating class went on to Penn. What makes it impossible?

To the OP: Belmont high is I think one of the ten best schools in MA–which has the 2nd best school system in the country–so you are in a unique situation.

Phead: Do you go to Rindge or BB&N?

It seems more popular in the northeast to apply to a bunch of schools that are out of state and private. Here in the South you have to be pretty gutsy to want to apply to anything other than the state school. I went to arguably one of the top 1-2 high schools in my area of 1 million people and on a good year we would send 5-10 people (out of a class of ~100) to a top 50 out of state school. Probably 40% would go to the state flagship and the rest would stay local and attend one of the unranked 4 years.

People where I grew up just did not consider going to places like Ivies even if they had the stats for them.

Rindge  What about you Justpokingaround?

Q: What’s Wrong With My This?
A: The “My”

Anyway, my school (the most competetive in the state) doesn’t send that many to “high” colleges.

Why put this in the Parents Forum as well? Two threads for same subject?

“What’s wrong with my High School?”

I don’t think its weird for a school to send a lot of kids to good schools because its public. I mean look at the top public U’s, they’re better than many private institutions. Belmont High just is a really good school, public or private.
