What's wrong with Revelle?

I put Revelle as my first choice and got in without really knowing too much about the college, and now I'm regretting it a bit because I've heard bad things about Revelle. What's wrong with it?

There are tons of people in Revelle who absolutely love it. The GE’s are great for science and math majors. Your college won’t matter at all after sophomore year.
Revelle, like any college, has its pro’s and con’s. Pro’s: Revelle has CLICS in it (library) which is open 24/7 finals week, and Plaza on the Side which is like a mini grocery store and cool restaurant/coffee shop thing that’s open till midnight. Pretty good location on campus. Con’s: Lots of GEs, housing isn’t too great.
But seriously, it’s not bad! UCSD in general is amazing!

Nothing is wrong with it. Overall, each college is unique in its own way and offers different things. Revelle tends to be a bit more on the quiet side since CLICS library is located RIGHT next to the dorms. It is the oldest college with rough GE’s but in my opinion, you probably get the best resources in Revelle to help you succeed.

I got into Revelle, Human Biology. My cousin went there and said she needed those GE’s anyway as a science major. She said to be prepared to run into some “overachievers”!

overachievers exist in every college and major … considering that you’re taking classes with people from all over campus (with the exception of college-specific writing classes), nobody’s immune from them.

i’m a marshall student living in Revelle res halls. The rooms aren’t “great” but i love the area. We have CLICS (computing library blah blah…) right next to us and Plaza on the Side (POTS) where we can get food until midnight… some people may say it’s GE’s are pretty bad, but in general there aren’t THAT much difference between colleges…

^How is Marshall? I got accepted in Marshall (my 3rd choice), so I want to know…

What about Warren? What are the pros and cons?

All the colleges are great, seriously!
Marshall
Pro’s - BEST food on campus, pretty good location, GE’s are decent. Most of my friends are in Marshall and they love it.
Con’s - I hear DOC (the writing program) is pretty bad, and the dorms are kind of oldish.

Warren
Pro’s - Good GE’s, especially for engineers. Earl’s Place is in Warren, which is a mini grocery store and cafe. Pretty close to the center of campus. Cool architecture.
Con’s - Lots of triples.

Going back to revelle…

when we say the worst dorms out of the SD schools, how bad are they relative to other schools?

i also hear the food is really bad at revelle?

Yay! I’m happy I got into Marshall now. =) Thanks, ucsandiego915. Also, is it mandatory to go to Admit Day? I live in North California and my parents are busy on that day. So I’m thinking I’ll go visit the campus during spring break (Mid-April).

Do top applicants get higher priority for their first choice UCSD college or is it more randomized?

I live in revelle dorms and went to a marshall dorm once, and i’d say they’re not that much different. The marshall dorm was slightly bigger…

Food at Revelle isn’t great, but they do have a good variety… and if you wanna go to other cafeterias, Muir’s Sierra Summit isn’t that far, and i sometimes go to OVT (Marshall restaurant)… So it’s not like you’re stuck with bad food for the rest of the freshman and sophomore year…

Also, as for DOC, I actually liked the first two quarters, especially DOC 2, where we learned about the Supreme Court cases, including many that Justice Thurgood Marshall took part in. BUT i heard the DOC structure is going to change completely starting next year… I don’t know if it’s going to be better or worse…

i got into revelle… but now i’m scared.

haha I got into Revelle too, but I didn’t know what I was getting into. I don’t know why I put Revelle as my top choice. You guys are really starting to scare me…

^ don’t be scared! seriously Revelle is not that bad, everyone is just crazy. UCSD is an incredible school, don’t let it affect your decision.

Yes! Got into Warren, my first choice. Really excited. :D

Revelle is the best for BEMS

Do not fear Revelle! Let’s stick together and support each other. As they say about a famous East Coast Ivy technology school, no one goes to sleep until everyone “gets it”.
Check out Astrina’s UCSD in pictures, Campus Life. Everyone is happy, ESPECIALLY Revelle. Astrina might be a tiny bit of an overachiever–but like she says, you find them anywhere.

I came into UCSD hating myself for putting Revelle as my #1 choice. But after a couple of weeks, i realized it wasn’t bad at all. The Ge’s look bad on paper, but really are around as bad as every other college. The bottom line is - GE’s suck for every college. period. My worst gripes about Revelle are probably the location, HUM, and old dorms. But really, it’s not that bad at all.
