Okay, I’m in the thread ‘newsweek ranks the world’s top 100 global universities’ and there’s all kinds of laugh-out-louding and other dismissive comments regarding skidmore and I’m trying to find out why. My son is looking at it as a possible transfer school. I’m asking questions on the thread but getting nowhere, so WHAT IS WRONG WITH SKIDMORE? Is it a lightweight academic institution? is it a school of pop culture? what’s wrong with skidmore?!?

Nothing as far I see it. My son has put Skidmore as one of his top 3 choices.
It is in a wonderful location, has a fairly broad curriculum for an LAC (has exercise science and business).

It is lopsided gender -wise--the last figures I saw put it at 62 % women.
That may just make it easier for a boy to gain admission

Check out thr thread that I mentioned. What is with the skidmore undertones?

Skidmore (where I come from) has a rep for being a good LAC although somewhat overpriced. It's supposed to be extremely liberal, but most people connect that more with pot than politics. That's really just where I come from though (upstate ny), and probably just based on the students who matriculate from my hs.

hi rabo - can you give me more informtion about the student body? Is it similar to Brown but easier to get into? they can't all be smoking pot all the time.

I don't think it's the whole student body...just the kids from my town who go there.

Skidmore is an excellent, well-balanced college. I think the reaction has to do with the fact that it is a very different institution than it was 20 years ago...when the student body was more (universally) affluent and underachieving. It deserves the positioning it currently has secured.
