What's Wrong?

I have now taken the ACT three times and have got practically the same score on each of the tests. I studied a little for the first one, nothing more for the second and a lot for the last one. I expected to get a much high score on the last one considering I actually studied for it(thought about 5 points higher).

When I took the practice tests the week before the actual test, I got a 28 and 31. Those are the scores I am shooting for but my real test was much lower.

What do you think could be the problem and what could/should I do differently if i do decide to retake it?

P.S I am not a great test taker

Thanks in advance.

If you haven’t already I would try to best simulate a testing environment. Take the 10 minute break and all too. I did this right before my first act test and got the same composite score.

I took a test two weeks before breaks and everything and got a 28. took another one the week before and got a 31. so i dont know what the problem is. could the book im using be too easy?

Get the red book man and some barrons books. The red book is called The Real ACT Prep Guide. It uses real tests… it is great and accurate. The barrons was useful for improving my score and the red book allowed me to practice the skills and see what my real score would be like. Other books are kind of useless… I took the test in April also and used other books and always got good scores on my practices but did crappy on the real thing and got a 23. Now that I used the red book and barrons i got a 28 this time. Heck, I only used about half of the red book I was planning to save the rest if i did bad again and had to retake it lol. I bet if i used the whole thing I would have got 32 or higher lol.

thank you @sy2850. did you just do a lot of practice problems/tests? or did you do something in addition?

Well the first thing I did was read all the info and tips on how to do better from the barrons book and then yeah i basically did a bunch of practice tests in the red book.

bump bump bump
