<p>I don't know where you got that engineering is a hook.</p>
<p>Ok, first of all, being international is in no way a hook. In fact, it hurts: 1937 internationals applied last year and 158 got in. Unless you're from somewhere exceedingly exotic and really special (Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan with a 1600 or something, being international would probably hurt you. </p>
<p>Second, 11 should be geographic diversity (underrepresented area/school system).</p>
<p>I'd have to say that I'm a little of 5, 7, and 11.</p>
<p>Brackets that stay open</p>
<p>Programming teaches you to close your brackets, if nothing else. A lot else, but closing brackets is pretty worthwhile in itself :p</p>

<p>well id say im the "engineer-minded" (in terms of how i tacke problems, i sorta made this explicit in my app, i think/hope) who wants to get an AB type liberal arts education and who has a keen passion in terms of social sciences and applying everything to everything else... thats my 'hook'... i look at myself as the 'academic' not necessarily the 'most intelligent'</p>
