What's Your Hours/Week Total for Your ECs+Job?

I honestly don't understand how you calculate hours. Anything more than 30 hours a week seems bizarre.

Again, what qualifies as e.c? Are you including general volunteer hours (school crap, etc) or what??

I'm only curious cause I do a lot at school but I never imagined they would be taken into consideration by adcoms.

I mean, since when does passing out fliers, begging parents do donate cash, and developing student body projects qualify as e.c?

I thought e.c was like employment, volunteering @ hospital, soup kitchen, newspaper, blah blah.

Ugh I hate this college game.

You have to remember that these numbers sound high because a lot of these activities only take place in certain seasons, for a set amount of weeks, etc. My hours were over 40 hrs/week, but I definitely wasn't doing 40 hours every week. You have to take averages- some clubs meet only every other week, so you calculate an average per week, some clubs have short regular meetings, but then have day-long competition- again you take the average. I also have one activity that is 18hrs/wk in the spring and another that is about 18 hrs/week in the fall, so I wouldn't add those to 32 hrs/wk.

Yeah.... like one of my ECs is mission team and we build houses in 3rd world countries and such.... during the week I normally only work like 1-2 hrs on it and sometimes skip weeks, but when we travel that's a straight 16 hours a day I'm spending on it, so I averaged it out to 5hrs/week.

... that really threw my weekly hours over the top, but it's obviously not something I'm doing consistently every week, yet I'm still being honest about average hours/weeks I spend on it..... really makes this whole thing rather confusing....

Ok, well I'm forced to meet 1.5/week for student body assembly. Can that be counted as volunteer hours?

I imagined these adcoms are getting numbed by this bloated e.c hours. %@#$ ridiculous.

^ i think they'd be like, "30h, 50h, been there done that. Anything else?"

Sigh.

Why parents, why?!
