Does Brown allow students to minor in subjects? I haven't read anything about it in any of its material, and department websites don't seem to mention it either. Thanks.

I haven't read or heard anything about minors either. But, if you think about it, does it really matter if you get formal recognition for a 'minor'? You can still take whatever courses you want.

No, Brown doesn't have "minors"

Also, your degree won't mention what you majored in unless you complete an honors program.

Its part of the curriculum idea, and I really like it. Minors are useless anyway.

Seriously!? Why?

I agree! what the crap?!

I'm pretty sure you can either have a degree, or a degree with honors.

"I'm pretty sure you can either have a degree, or a degree with honors."

You might be a little confused about honors. Honors is given by the department you are concentrating in, not the school, and is the result of writing an honors thesis. Magna Cum Laude is given by the school, and that is the sort of thing where you can say you had a degree with or without it.

Probably a mixture of culinary arts and civil disobedience, although custodial engineering looks appealing.

that's what I was talking about, sorry if i didnt make it clear. I was more adressing Pete's comment that you can't have a major without doing the honors thesis, which is of course, wrong.

That is not what I said. You are required to have a concentration; however, this concentration will not be noted on your degree unless you complete an honors thesis (in which case the degree will designate the department that granted you honors). Otherwise, you'll just recieve a generic A.B. or SciB.

I think you're right, Pete, though this is always a point of uncertainty in conversations I've had on the subject. For those who are worried, all of your completed concentrations (one, two, or even three of them) will be noted on your transcript.
