The general consensus seems to be that it’s a popularity contest. However, a few have said the council at their school does good work and have some influence on the school.
What do you all think? Is it worth running for office, and will colleges take it as a joke?
This year the vast majority of people didn’t even know when and how to vote. They just announced “here are your new ASB officers” one day. And they really don’t do anything, so yeah, its really pointless.
But it depends on your school of course.
I think it’s pointless and basically a popularity contest to see who can add something nice to their transcript, i wish they had a bigger role in schools. A lot of students in my class don’t even know who’s in our council, and, admittedly, I only know the treasurer and the president for my class.
It completely depends on the school. My school council, the ASB one, has real power - they are able to determine where school activity funds go to and they also vote on where we have graduation, prom, etc. It is a popularity contest at my school but that is life - I think the sooner that everyone realizes that, it’ll be easier. Colleges want leaders and leaders are suppose to be popular, aren’t they?
