But there’s this school in my state called the International School thats ranked #1 in the state and 24th in the country. It’s weird. It’s a public school and admissions are based on a lottery of the incoming 6th graders who apply. Which is kinda cool.

950 +/- 15… Yay, it’s ranked! But it has declined from what it used to be…
The school has had some really brilliant students, but it has a large population of mostly average students.

~And those that do attend the top High Schools in America, I’m jealous of you guys, well just the reputation that some of the people that attended those get near perfect scores on college exams while everybody else fails…
Oh. And magnet schools in academic competitions… Not fair if it is based on the team score.

I don’t think anyone’s high school ranking can hurt his/her application, but I’m sure doing well in a reputable, top-ranked high school is impressive.

It’d be a lot harder to get a good GPA/class rank, though, and the competition could keep you from standing out. And it wouldn’t be as easy to play yourself off as disadvantaged, so you wouldn’t have as many excuses for not having good ECs or whatever.

Mine does not appear anywhere on either list… The program I’m in is great, but looking at some of the stats for these schools! An average SAT of 2200 for #10 on the Newsweek list. That’s just seriously insane. I mean, that’s a 99th percentile score as the school’s average.
