What's your school like?

-Elite public school
-400 students in our grade
-~1600 kids total
-Around 1/3 of our class is very high-achieving. We got over a dozen Ivy acceptances this year (7 Princeton acceptances alone), and I’m guessing around 25% of the class is heading to a top 30 or similar caliber schools next year. After the top 1/3 or so students, there’s a huge dropoff in terms of the students’ academic strength.
-The rest of the students are either average academically or very dumb. The average kids are usually athletes and/or crazy partiers who rage every week, and the really dumb kids are typically potheads or rednecks.
-Overall the environment is extremely competitive
-Our school sucks at football, but is pretty good at some other sports like track, swimming, tennis, and fencing.
-~70% white, ~25% Asian, a few African American or Hispanics
-Pretty much every kid comes from a 150k+ household
-Many of the teachers are amazing
-Guidance counselors are actually very helpful (unlike at a lot of schools)
-Decent music/arts program
-VERY cliquey; although most people are pretty nice, they still tend to stick to their own social groups
-Very strict. There are tons of stupid rules in place (probably started because of stupid underclassmen who think they’re cool) that I sometimes feel like I’m in a prison, not a school. Lots of teachers hate the rules too.
-School spirit? What’s that?
-Quality of student body is getting worse every year. Our school is getting infested with druggies and trashy kids so in a couple of years or so it’ll probably be crap compared to what it is now. There are some seriously f***ed up kids in the freshman class
-Overall though, there are a lot of REALLY talented and smart kids (amazing artists, musicians, etc) in our grade/school.

Public
A little less than 300 in my class
Most are middle class to lower class
~40% go to a 4-year university each year, ~30% go to a cc
Sports are terrible. We scored literally one touchdown all of last football season, and I know this because I’m in the marching band and had to go to all of the games. One game we lost 0 to 80 something.
SAT avg. below 1500
~72% white, 12% black, 8% Hispanic & Asian, American Indian <1%
Most people are major partiers/stoners/drunks.
Nobody has any school spirit what-so-ever
Teachers hate their jobs.
Uncompetitive. I’m almost top 5%, and I’ve gotten my share of Bs.
Students are getting worse and worse academically each year. The current 8th graders have a handful of kids signed up for honors.
Music program probably isn’t going to last much longer once these freshmen graduate; it seems like nobody wants to sing or play an instrument anymore.
More unhappy/angry/depressed kids than content/happy kids.

Just not a good place to be.

Public
200/class
USNWR gold medal rated
Average SAT is like an 1800
Lotsa smart kids for a public
Most people are upper middle class to upper class
Had like 8 ivy acceptances this year, about average
Alcohol/weed/partys at rich kid’s houses are very prevalent
Only good tennis, lax, and gold teams
Band/orchestra unimportant
90 something % white
Good guidance counselors
Very cliquey

I seriously doubt anyone is actually reading these descriptions…

Public school, class around 500 people.

In my school, literally nothing happens. The last time I heard about a fight was two years ago. It’s located in a small town where nothing happens and everyone is a law-abiding citizen. Seriously, our front page news is “Police hope to hire three new officers.”
Most of the people at my school are academically ambitious and intelligent. At my school, a 30 on the ACT is considered to be on the “low” side.

We do have one really creepy Spanish teacher who I will refer to as “Doctora.”
She says things like: “I haven’t gotten your papers all checked yet because I’m not wonder woman. But I’ve got a body like wonder woman.”
Or when Doctora told us about the time she got flashed by a prostitute or accidentally showed her kids porn… “accidentally”

Public
Class size: about 250
The school was designed by an architect who specializes in constructing prisons, so yeah it isn’t the most beautiful building I’ve ever seen.
We’re hit or miss with sports; some are very good (hockey, track, gymnastics) or terrible (soccer, basketball) but it’s generally a pretty big deal. Our cheerleaders have won 8 straight national titles…yuck.
Our principal is the man. Really tech savvy and into promoting a positive environment. Our whole school got iPads this year as part of his tech integration initiative.
Academically, we’re probaby slightly below average. An one or two Ivy acceptances a year, but mostly state or community college enrollment. Think we have about 15 AP classes.
Overwhelmingly white, though we do have a pretty huge Indian population as well.

We call ourselves an “independent” school. No, I don’t know what that means either.
Class size of about 100 people.
Usual SAT score is about 1950 (it was a little lower for this year’s graduating class though)
Both IB and AP classes offered. IB > AP. This year, six people were predicted 45s. Two of them are going to S, one of them’s going to Oxford.
Kids are insanely rich - and about a third of them have famous parents.
One of our graduates is valedictorian of his class at Harvard.
Drugs go where the money is. The clubbing population have been known to dabble in the harder ones, too.
Good sports teams (except in swimming), but games aren’t a big thing/attended.
People tend to bunch into really inflexible cliques. I met two new people this week, from my grade - and yeah, we’re 100. A little weird.

International Private School based on US Standards
Class around 50-70 students (yeah, reaaaally small)
School takes place in buildings that were used as military bases in Panama (whilst the Canal and all of that)
A lot of sport/athletic interest, very few truly excel at em.
Really low academic level in general, with a group of elite that grow amongst eachother’s competition and become really well academically developed. Around 10 ish AP’s are offered.

Public, but seems private.
There are 14 students in my class.
Around 200 in 6-12.
It’s not really diverse.
Most students are on the lower part of the economy, while some students have multiple vehicles and/or are quite wealthy.
Farming and agricultural things are big here.
We are big in FFA, Beta, and marching band.
We aren’t very good at sports.
Academically we score in the top, if not the highest, in testing scores.
The highest ACT score in the senior class was a 33.
Most of the students attend Mizzou.
