<p>Wes was lampooned in the movie PCU; some of it was for good reason, but I doubt that it has more transgendered students than at other places, or more vegans (especially aggressive ones) as in the movie. I don't actually recall "neutral" on the form my S filled out. Could it be something new?</p>
<p>I doubt if the gender issues at Wes are a thing of the past. My tour was in Aug 2004 and the gender discussion was begun by the tour guide (a student). I assumed it was of concern to the students since a guide raised the issue during the tour.</p>
<p>I never assumed the gender neutral discussion meant we should make the leap to transgendered. It could mean that the students are supportive of not being forced to declare a gender (even if they are certain about their own genders)....just as some students don't like having to declare a race. Students on progressive campuses are often sympathetic of their fellow student's concerns and take stances to support them. I don't assume there are more transgendered students at Wes. I do assume there are more students who are actively supportive of transgendered students.....which may lead to there being more transgendered on campus, who knows.</p>
