When and why does repeating make sense?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a very unhappy freshman at one of the top ISL schools and am thinking about transferring. My grades and test scores are up to par with the standards of Exeter and the like (A’s and A-'s, 97% SSAT) but I have been suffering from a somewhat severe concussion for the past six months, and as a result, I have already missed a lot of days of school and all of the fall sports season. More to the point, I have been exhausted, out of it, unfocused, and unable to retain information for long periods of time. I think that it may make sense for me to repeat 9th grade so that I can actually have the chance to go through freshman year as my full self. However, I also feel like asking my parents to pay for any unnecessary years of expensive private school is way too much to ask. What should I do? Could I even get into a top school at this point with an almost completely blank resume of ECs for this past fall? Obviously, I could talk about what I’ve done in the past, but will that be enough?

My current list consists of Phillips Exeter, The Governor’s Academy, and St. George’s, with Exeter being my first choice by a landslide. What are my chances/what should I do?

Thank you!!

hi @cstns731
I think you would get more/better replies if you posted this in the chances section of these threads…

Why don’t you just repeat where you are?
