When applying for top ranked schools.....

Hi, when applying for the colleges, how much of a difference would it be if you had
1. Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics
or
2. Living Environment, Chemistry, AP Environmental Science

Would the colleges take one over the other? I'm trying to decide what class to take as a junior because the colleges won't really be seeing the senior grades.
Thanks.

ap enviro is seen as a joke to some colleges, and very few will allow credit for it. Personally I would go for the physics, one of the big 3 (chem, bio, physics) that colleges like to see before graduation

I agree. Go for the physics.

physics is more impressive, but don't do yourself in. Have you taken Calc BC yet?

I'd say for physics AP, calc AB is all that's required. You learn the integration techniques needed in AB.

Just IMO - you can definately get trough AP C without having taken a Calc class. Seriously, what you need to do mathematically is pretty limited and easy to learn, and a lot of classes spend some time on learning it anyway.

yeah, almost everyone at my school takes ap physics C without any previous calc, most taking ap calc ab concurrently

is enviro really seen as a joke? I'm taking it haha

yes it is. Let's say you took that over ap bio, that wouldn't be the wisest choice, but if it interests you/boosts your gpa, that works too

WOOT!!!!!... i took bio this year... ap environment should be another 5 to add to my list and a grade buffer!

I would take AP ENV SCI and AP BIO together because they supplement each other in content.

my school doesn't even offer ap env sci, which is okay since I'm not that interested in it anyways.

I thought it would be weak to take envir so i'm planning to take an online course or self-study. What online services do you recommend? or is self-study better?

Okay regular physics should be an easy A. There is really no excuse for not getting one (Or at least try getting top colleges to understand it). Further colleges expect you to have taken physics and they WILL see your senior classes. How about a compromise: Honors Physics (or does your school not offer it) and AP Environmental Science Senior year. However I do agree with the above persons who stated that AP E is seen as a slacker class and because it is an AP you will have to place some effort forth and take that stupid test. It just does not seem worth it. Take a class like AP Chem of AP Physics senior year if science is one of your strongs suits if not then it really doesnt matter...

I don
t think you should take AP enviro with AP bio.....
I
ve heard from someone that the content is VERY SIMILAR and that colleges will not be very happy with this...

Unfortunately, the only science AP my school offers is Environmental Science.

Ap World:
Then I would suggest taking AP Environmental Science. As long as you don
t take ap enviro with ap bio, then I would think it is okay. It is always better to take the hard sciences(physics, chem, bio) but if it is not available to you, then this will not be counted against you. The colleges will recieve your school
s profile from your GC, so they will know what classes are offered at your school.

regardless most colleges want a basic physics credit before anything else. Take AP Enviro in your senior year.

Yes, I agree. regular physics is much better than ap enviro.

There is nothing wrong with taking AP ENV with AP BIO...
