I have a 2.89UW GPA and a ACT composite of 30. I want to get a BFA in design/tech and know that this is what I want to do with my life. I have demonstrated interest at several schools including sitting down with department heads. I recently uploaded my portfolio to some schools on Acceptd and passed Ithaca’s prescreen. I am also applying to the following schools:
Penn State
SUNY Purhase
Pace
Michigan State
Montclair
Rutgers (Mason Gross)
VCU
With my GPA, I am worried that it will corrupt my chances of getting into these wonderful BFA programs. Should I be worried? Or, do these programs tend to turn the other cheek when talent overpowers acaemics?
Yes! (forgot to mention that) My current GPA (For this year) is a 3.6 UW. If it is combined with the 2.89, then my UW GPA is around a 3.2. Also, my weighted GPA for Fresh through Junior year is 3.01
It depends on the school. Some schools are very open about not adhering to the general university admissions criteria and some (Boston University, for example) you have to pass the university’s muster first. Does your school use Naviance to help you get an idea of the average GPA accepted to these school’s from your high school?
So far, I have been accepted to both VCU and Penn State’s theatre programs for scenic design!
I have also been accepted to Montclair academically. I will interviewing at the rest of the schools (Ithaca, Pace, SUNY Purchase, Michigan State, Mason Gross, and Montclair) within the next couple of months.
