A sincere congrats to those who have gotten in!!! Cal Poly is a great school.

I can’t figure out why some with such high stats are wait-listed or rejected-I feel so bad for all of you. I’m sure you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be and have a great time. :)

Still waiting to hear from Child Development. Fingers crossed.

Their admissions process is really stupid! Kids at my school are getting accepted with mediocre GPA’s and 1600-1700 SAT’s. I know several kids with 2100-2250 SAT’s who have been either waitlisted or deferred early decision (and no, they haven’t committed any felonies). I haven’t heard yet and I have a 4.0 W GPA and a 2050 SAT. SLO has one of the easiest admissions standards of the places I applied to and I may be rejected or waitlisted. I can’t even believe it.

I still haven’t heard yet for business admin. Should I be worried? Cal Poly isn’t my top choice, but I still want to know if I got in. Also, those of you with really good stats that got waitlisted or denied, they probably figured you’d go to a better school anyway, and were just taking the slot of someone who really wanted to go there.

Not necessarily true. I know some people with very good stats who applied ED and would have had to go there if accepted, and they got deferred still. It boggles the mind.

When we visited, one point that was made over and over was to be very careful when filling out your application, especially with classes and grades. They stated that many qualified students get rejected due to mistakes. Additionally, I did my research and Cal Poly unlike most schools, is harder to get in to for ED than for RD. Finally I am not sure how Cal Poly is such an easy school to get in. For 2011 average gpa was around 3.8-3.9 (agriculture and liberal arts slightly lower) with SATs of 1200-1300 (excluding writing). Cal Poly is considered the safety school when compared to Ivys and Cal Tech, Berkeley, UCLA and the likes, but otherwise is considered a reach school for most. They also are slightly reducing acceptances this year due to an underestimate of how many students would accept their offer last year.

@sdsenior
I checked my portal like everyday since like December (yeah, I was kinda pathetic)

My stats however are kind of balanced , like I did not that great in the SAT (1800-1900) , but my school does IB and my G.PA is pretty good and I have environmentally related EC’s , but nothing too special , don’t worry !

I am keep my fingers crossed for all who are still waiting on decisions ! Hope to see you all at Cal POly SLO in the fall !

Someone posted in another thread that someone in the admissions office said on February 23rd that they’d still be releasing acceptances for three weeks. So, if the person in the admissions office was correct, then they should still be going out until maybe the 15th or so.

Another person posted here that someone in the admissions office said they’d be going out until April 1st. However, from posts on this website in decisions threads for previous years, it seems like people had also posted that they had heard that from admissions, but it seemed like many rejections came out well before then. So, maybe they reject some people before then, but someone could still possibly be accepted up until April 1st, when everyone will definitely know their decision?

I think the school wants to keep their average admission stats low or someting becasue I have heard of people getting in with lower stats and not getting in with high ones. My friend last year got rejected with a 4.5 and a very high SAT and ended up going to Berkeley. Cal Poly and MIT were his only rejections. Yet my friend got in this year with a 3.3 and about a 1450 SAT. She was ED and a nutrition major.

Daughter was wait listed today sometime after 11am

“You have been placed on the waitlist at Cal Poly for fall. You will be emailed a survey confirming if you would like to remain on the waitlist or no longer be considered for admission to Cal Poly. Once you receive email, respond promptly to the survey.”

Also still haven’t heard for Biomedical Engineering (Mech). 3.8 W GPA, 27 ACT (30 in science), No SAT, Very good EC. He has a few friends who have been accepted with lower GPAs and SAT scores, but none in Biomedical Engineering.

It seems as though there are more applicants waitlisted this year than in past years. Perhaps it is because they over enrolled last year so they are being more careful about that this year. Has anyone heard of any rejections yet?
