accepted!
but my estimated cost of attendance is $48,450...that's a lot
what are yours?

I'm in!! :) and with the JES scholarship, as well! Grin

Ours was pretty high as well. They did something a little odd with the numbers. I am concerned because D received an outside scholarship and they say that they use it to offset any Fed Aid they have already offered. I emailed them - Husband was also laid off after we submitted all forms - don't know if they will do another review.

D really likes the school, but I don't know if we can afford it. =(

She didn't apply before November 1 to be considered for any scholarships - I wonder if that was why? How about everyone else?

Yeah, i didn't get any financial aid from them :( but i might get a few outside scholarships. I wasn't able to turn in my app by Nov. 1, and I'm not sure if I would have qualified for JES anyway. So, even though Scripps is my first choice, I may not end up going since UCSD is so much cheaper. sigh My parents tell me that I should pick the one I like the best regardless of price, but I can't help but feel bad. My brother did that (chose the one school that didn't offer him any money) and I don't want to have them paying 100,000 a year in school tuitions for the both of us, especially since my dad doesn't have a job right now.

yeah it seems like there are lots of dilemmas where people have to choose between expensive dream school vs. less expensive okay school.

i didn't apply for the nov. 1 deadline (so early!!), so i didn't get any scholarships and got around $6,000 FA. lol...

i think i'll take occidental over scripps, since the cost will be around $25,000...as opposed to $48,000

got in! :)
but im exactly in the same boat as you, noinspiration, its SOO expensive.
and if your not a JES winner then there is like nooo way you can get other financial aid thats not need-based.

are you guys on a high income bracket or middle class?
cause from what seem like you're saying you didn't get really any aid....

I think it is the way they distribute their "aid". D didn't receive much in grants, but received two loans and a work study which brought it within a few thousand of our EFC. However, she has received an outside scholarship, which they will most likely use to replace the loans - so it's a wash. The interesting thing is that the organization who offers the scholarship insists that the school not reduce any FinAid because they feel the scholarship should be a separate thing in addition to whatever was already awarded. Every school does it differently.

We still can't afford what our expected contribution would be. It is very unfortunate because it is a very good school and offers those who attend many unique opportunities. Lucky for her, she has many options to choose from.

Good luck to the rest of you. Looks like this one will not be an option.

my family is in the middle-high income.
but i didnt receive any info on grants, federal aid, etc. that i am eligible for...
will that info come later?

I got in! :D Just received it today.
I'm so relieved. Now comes the finaid discussion with my parents.....

Woo-hoo, my D. is in. A school she's very interested in, so it's great news.

My D is in ( with no aid but none expected) as well.

Shrinkrap, congrats! My D is in, and we are way too "rich" to hope for any aid either  Oh, well.

^Congrats to you and yours as well BunsenBurner!
