haha bballdude

Ok here go my humble stats,

Go to a pretty good public highschool in Wisconsin that sends about 8 or 9 kids a year to top 10-15 schools

GPA: 4.0 UW

Class Rank: 1 of 524

SAT: M 780 CR 760 W 760 2300

SAT II: Math II 800
Spanish 800
Physics 760

National Merit Semifinalist (will most likely advance to finalist with 4.0 and 2300)

AP
Calculus AB 5
Spanish 5
Calculus BC 5

I have taken the most rigorous course load offered at my high school. In addition I have taken several classes at UW-Madison.

Classes Taken at UW-Madison

Genetics: A
Math 276: A+
Math 375: A+
Stat 309: A+
Math 376: In Progress
Stat 310: In Progress

The Math 276-375-376 is an Honors calculus sequence that cover Calc II and then moves on to multivariable calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. This math sequence is VERY DEMANDING and completely PROOF BASED. The Stat 309-310 is a sequence for Math and Stat majors that is fairly demanding and rigorous.

I expect to get a great recommendation from my Math professor at the university since I got 100, 96, 97, 98, 99 on his exams and have aced all the homeworks (which are pretty hard!)

My other recs are from an english teacher, will be very good, she loves me. And from my Calc BC teacher from highschool, I was clearly the top student in the course and expect an excellent rec (my average test score second semester was 99). I expect my counselor rec to be excellent as she thinks I am probably the top student in the grade.

I am the captain of a very competitive regional level soccer team that travels out of state almost every weekend in the spring and trains 3-4 times a week.

I also play the violin and am an avid sailor/windsurfer (I am an instructor in the summer months)

I also tutor high school students about 4 hrs/week.

I was selected for and participated in a summer research internship this summer.

I got one today! I was so surprised

I got a likely letter date February 28th in the mail today! SOOOOOOOOO excited.

Please say what state you're from. I know I'm getting my hopes up but I can't help it :(

I'm from california and i got my likely letter today, which was dated feb 28 :D

I'm from Iowa

So Duke is probably done sending them out to the east coast--nj/conn areas?

Oh well, I'll be patient.

my friend just got one today. We're from Illinois.

I'm from Palm Beach County, Florida

sign* still no likely letter...ahhhhhhhhhhhh

does anyone know when decisions come out?

Last year, they come out on the 28th. Duke says on their website that decisions will come out in early April, but I believe that this is a worst case scenario. Personally, I believe that decisions will probably come out in late March again.

omgomgogmogmogmogmogmog....i want a letter

at least it';l be spring break

Please help - AB Duke scholarship interview dilemma

I got an email a couple of hours ago saying that Duke has shortlisted me as a finalist for the AB Duke Scholarship, and that they want me to come for a visit and interview on April 5-7. Since I am an international from India, and in dire need of all the money (and all else) that the AB Duke offers - and since Duke is footing the bill for the visit - this is really a Big Deal, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. BTW, the email mentions that I have already been accepted for admission.

But, here comes the crunch. sigh

My final school leaving exam, starting in a week's time, actually ends on - OMG - April 5! And unlike a school test, this is a public exam, involving 6,00,000 students, so dates are FIXED!!!! :(

Even if rush out of home that evening after the exam, and take the loooooong flight, the earliest I can reach Durham is April 7 morning - most likely pack-up time for the 41 other students called for the interview. :(

Why, oh why ... :(

As I wait with fingers crossed to hear about whether there is still a way to keep my candidacy alive, any suggestions from anybody out there?
