does it vary greatly or are they normally in the evening? also, if anyone knows specifically for chem 2150 (because it may conflict with a PE class) that'd be cool.

Chem 215 is at night. If you have a conflict you can take an early.

Most sciences and maths are.

When are the prelims in the semester (i.e. which week of which month)?

[Cornell University Registrar: Fall 2009 Evening Prelim Exam Schedule](http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Sched/PRELF.html)

When looking at the final exam schedule for fall 2009, what does the periods A,B,C refer too exactly? I mean, how do I go about determining when my finals are for each class?

The course syllabus that the prof hands out on the first day of class will usually list all of your exam dates. Many major prelims (intro bio and chem, orgo, etc…) are held at night.

Prelims are either at night (7:30 PM to 9:00 PM) or during regular class time, depending on the class.

@chendrix - thanks for that link

@lollerpants - that link fails
haha

Failz. I got it from google too.

another question: is it necessary to go to class on the day before fall break (oct 9)… i’d only have 2 lectures… do teachers have classes that day and would they care if i didn’t show that day? if i choose to go home over fall break the flight would be at 6am so that’s why i’m curious.

It’s never “necessary” to go to class unless your professor takes attendance.

@suzie those are just codes for the different exam times. Eventually all times slots will be placed in a block. Once that is published you look at the list at the time slot your class first meets for the week and that tells you which letter and thus which time the exam is. Their will also be a big list of exceptions for classes that have their exam at a different time than the first meeting period for the week would indicate. This will probably be calculated after the first few days of add drop when things have settled down to be the minimal solution for the number people who have 2 exams at the same time.

If none of my classes are on that schedule, can I assume that all of my prelims will be during class time? And is there another schedule for in-class prelims?

Exam dates (or approximate dates) will be on the syllabus that your prof will give you on the first day of class.

engineers and hard sciences tend to have prelims a week earlier than humanities/social science often bc they have 3 and not 2 prelims

^I’d say that’s only for the very intro classes. MATH 1910, CS 1110/1112, etc. have 3 prelims. MATH 1920, CS 2110, CHEM + PHYS only have 2 prelims.
