When Are Scholarships Announced?

So when are the merit scholarships announced? I know Shipman's is mid dec, but how about the LSA Deans, etc.

My son received his LSA Dean’s scholarship letter in late December.

How do scholarships for UMich work? Did we have to apply or is this scholarship just given based on your academic records?

I received a letter of acceptance. If there were any scholarship award, would that have been posted in my letter?

i was wondering this same question, although i probably will not qualify anyway. do you hear the same time you find out if you’re in honors?

Your admissions application serves as your scholarship application. If the admissions office thinks your application is competitive for merit scholarships, they will pass it on to the scholarship office(s).

Some admits are automatically invited to join the LSA Honors program after they are admitted to the university. However, to insure that your application is considered for Honors, you need to send in an application - after you are admitted to LSA.

Here’s a link with more informationon Honors:

http://www.lsa.umich.edu/honors/prospects/index.htm

My son received his snail-mail acceptance letter two days ago. There was no mention of any merit awards or the honors college in that letter. If I remember correctly from reading CC posts last year, the award letters came later, as SBDAD wrote above.

Thanks for the honors link, SBDAD - I don’t think my son realizes that he has to contact Michigan if he is interested in the honors program. I have read here that the honors housing isn’t that great. It actually might not be as good as regular housing. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

My D is in South Quad where Honors housing is located and likes it. The rooms are pretty basic, but the location is good. I think that there are physically nicer places, but socially it seems to be a good hall for freshmen.

Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

My S is also in South Quad. His room is miserable because he got stuck in a triple - not by choice. However, even given that, I would recommend honors housing for the great location and the social/academic benefits.

My D is a current Junior Voice major. She received her scholarship information at some point in the first two weeks of April! It was late! But the news was welcome!
