When Are The PSAT Scores Released?

i live in Southern Cali, and i haven't received anything either. boo...

Nothing in Northern Oregon.

Parent here weighing in. This is one of my hugest gripes about Collegeboard, which I possibly despise more than the IRS. On top of their incompetence, they play so many games. My suggestion regarding the artificial delays is that they're in league with the h.schools which like to dramatize the announcements of the NM qualifiers, which likely won't happen until January.

They tightly control those **** PSAT scores as if they're Admissions decisions, for crying out loud. Of course, they get to do that because technically the high schools pay for the administration of the tests, I think, not (unlike SAT) the individual families. Those who pay get control of their scores. (Which is why you get to see your SAT's online.)

For us, this has nothing to do with NM qualifying, 'cuz I don't think D will come close anyway. It has to do with seeing just exactly how badly or not she did, so that we can schedule maybe an earlier, later SAT and/or decide which prep to do, and/or decide whether to encourage the ACT, too.

The delay & game-playing for the PSAT affects the SAT, affects college outcomes. This is why I so hate Collegeboard.

End of rant.

The NM qualifiers aren't announced in January - the "high scorers" [commended and up] find out in late April/early May, and semi-finalists are announced in late August/early September.

But I agree I don't understand the delay in delivering scores. I also don't understand why the announcement of who qualifies for NM is delayed until next summer - NM has all the data now.

I'm in NY, and I got my score yesterday.

I suppose it depends on the school. My friends in Philly haven't gotten theirs yet.

I could have sworn that at my D's school they knew, & announced, before March. If the cutoffs are known & the h.school knows the scores, they wouldn't have to wait until the NM folks or collegeboard informs them of that. But I won't quibble; perhaps you have more info than I.

Also, as soon as those scores were in, my D started getting mega-mail (as a Jr.) from colleges soliciting for her to apply for their NM-linked awards.

I haven't gotten any mail or emails as of yet, but I don't think I qualified. It's annoying because with a 220 in NY, I think I missed by only a couple of points.

At my son's hs in So Cal, the sudents sign up and pay for the Psat through the hs guidance office. Then they hold the scores until January and make everyone come pick them up at an evening sales presentation by Princeton Review while they "explain" what the scores mean and offer to help students with their SAT prep. I often wonder what the hs gets out of this arrangement.

Does anyone feel that semifinalist should be a national ranking too? I dont think it makes sense just because your from a small state which might have poorer public schools means that you have the edge over states like MA, NJ, NY, CA, and a few others i cant remember. Im 99th percentile living in NY, which, if semifinalist was the top 16k scores in the country i would get, but if its equally by state, then i probably wont.

I feel your pain mrmogul. 220 puts me in the 99th percentile. I go to a crappy public school here, and yet a kid with the same exact situation in WY gets NMS with a lower score.

It doesn't seem terribly fair to me.

nothing in missouri (misery) yet, at least not at my high school or my friends' schools. its killing me because im almost positive that our school has the grades

I'm an "anyone" that believes there should be national scales. (As in National Merit.)

Our S's school probably has the scores already, since I know that other schools in the area do. However, since they are just about to start exams, the school never releases the scores until the second week in January. The counselors go to each English class to give the students their scoresheets/information and they discuss the next step in the college process (taking the SAT, etc.). I am not sure that S2 is even aware that they are probably back. I only know because of how things were for his older siblings! I don't talk about it because the focus really needs to be on his exams, as grades will be the most important thing on his transcript.

South of Twin Cities in Minnesota- we're getting our scores on Wednesday. But those lucky PLAN kids, they got their scores last week, I was so jealous!

hi, i live in HK and took the test in october......my counselor said school's not getting them till the 15th of Dec and we will be lucky to get them before the end of term (22nd Dec).....sucks cos I'm taking my SAT on Jan 27th and would like to have an idea of the range of my actual score.....oh well..

Nothing's happening in TN...

We are in NJ and the school my D goes to usually holds info until it's convenient. It seems that they hold schedules til the last minute in august so that the parents can't complain, then they refuse to change anything, saying their hands are tied. So I'm not surprised that they haven't released the PSAT scores yet. I wouldn't be surprized if the kids got their scores the day before Christmas break, to avoid parent calls, lol.

We have them in Kentucky. No sign of PLAN tests though- those are required by the state, so they're probably held up in Frankfort we're our corrupt state government is busy pouring over how they're failing their students.

We have to take the ACT here too. Of course, we're not told how that works. So I bunch of student here will take it on their own, get the score they want the first time, and get told they have to take it again anyway.

My D does "correspondence" thru Indiana U HS. We got them last Monday from one of the advisors.

i didnt get anything from texas, but my friends from another school already said they got theirs. i suppose this might be because im homeschooled, cause another home-schooled friend of mine said she didnt get hers either. im confused..........
