Long-time lurker, first-time poster, here. I'm wondering when high schools typically get official transcripts distributed to colleges their recent grads plan to attend. Our h.s. has a history of getting them out in mid to late July, saying the colleges don't really need them until early August.

Admittedly, I'm inexperienced with all this college 'stuff', but shouldn't transcript have been sent out some time ago? Graudation was held the first week of June! Do colleges have a 'deadline'? When does this become a problem?? Thanks for any/all help!

Our HS sends out transcripts within the first two weeks after graduation (June 18). They also have to send transcripts to the NCAA clearinghouse for all the Division I and II athletes. I am not sure of the NCAA deadline but I think it is August 1. I would think colleges need the final transcripts before they make the freshmen schedules.

At our school they are sent out on the GC’s last day of school (2 days after the student’s last day of school) since GCs are off until the last week in August.

There is normally a process where all of the graduating students must be discharged off your school’s roster. In NY state, this year was a little hetic because the reading day following the last day of regents was on the student/teacher’s last day of school. The students who have graduated were discharged on the last day of school and it takes about 24 hours for the system to update in ATS/HSST so that a new set of transcripts that have both the discharge date and the graduation date indicated on the transcript.

Not sure when our school sent them, but D was able to see that they had been received online at her account with her new school. Do you have something like that you can check?

Our high school had a glitch with electronic transcripts. I finally got a sealed hard-copy and sent it certified mail. Totally worth the couple of dollars and slight effort.

With our second son I gave the school one chance. If the transcript didn’t appear within a reasonable amount of time, I got the sealed hard-copy and sent it certified.

FWIW, I work at the school in question, and they still screwed up sending my son’s transcripts - multiple times.

Son #3 is applying this year. We’ll be watching the initial, mid-year, and final transcripts very carefully to make sure they arrive.

One other note - with both my boys I got an unofficial transcript first and checked it for accuracy. There was an error on one of them - easy to fix, but necessary. After the unofficial transcript was error-free, we asked them to send the official transcripts out.
