I just submitted my SIR and transcripts some day ago to UCI, and they told me that Orientation is gonna be in July. But my cousin who currently goes to UCI is asking me if I've registered yet. He's telling me that classes are filling up and that I should hurry. I feel so behind and I'm really confused about the timeline for transfers. I plan on double majoring in chem and bio, so I can't afford to fall behind. I just don't understand why the orientation would be in the middle of summer when registration is at the beginning?

I don’t know how it is at UCI, but at UCSD transfers register after orientation (I believe that’s in August) and that they hold a certain amount of spots within the classes until that time for transfers.

It’s different at every school. For UCI, it looks like June 10. I’m surprised they haven’t emailed you details/instructions about it. It might also be at orientation, I dunno.

Some of the UCs (like Berkeley) do phases for registration, where you can only add 10 units of class during the first phase, then you sign up for the rest of your classes after everyone’s got some classes. It makes registration a bit fairer (and more annoying), but it prevents the problem you’re talking about… doesn’t look like UCI does this, though.

Orientation is in July. Did you already sign up for one of the dates? You have to do that and pay $35 to go to orientation. Besides that, you also have to go to an academic advising session at your school/department. You may have noticed there is a hold on your record at UCI (check the admissions portal). Once you talk to a counselor, they will lift that hold and you will be able to enroll in classes. If you haven’t received anything from the school/dept into which you were accepted, you should receive at least an email shortly. I SIRed to UCI on the 15th and only got the email yesterday… But you can always call them and ask how they’re planning their academic advising sessions. Your cousin is a continuing student, he has an earlier enrollment window than us incoming transfers, and no hold on his record, so don’t worry too much. Most, if not all, of us transfers haven’t registered for Fall classes yet.
Just to clarify, orientation and academic advising are different things. You can go to academic advising whenever your dept makes an appointment for you. That may be before or after the orientation meetings in July. It all depends on their time availability and yours.

Haven’t been emailed by Bren School yet about advising.
