I'm planning to transfer Fall 2011, so I'll probably work on a lot of apps over the winter break. However, there's about a week left before I leave for college, and since I've got a bit of free time, I was wondering if there are any advantages to starting apps NOW. Any people who've been through the transfer process want to comment?

I already have. But I’m just filling out the generic stuff for the common app and their essay. I’m going to do the supplements and the school-specific essays over Xmas Break so I can get mid-term grades qnd LORs all filled out after break. But I’m sending my HS transcripts ASAP because they’re slow as hell and I’ll probably have to send them out twoce before they reach anyone.

I successfully went through my transfer app process last year, which I started during winer break. Filling generic fields now is fine, but you really cannot answer the “Why do you wish to transfer?” prompt before attending your first college.

In high school, I started REALLY early…like a year early. I found this to be worse for me, because I had that much more time to stare at my essays. Now, I wrote all my essays in about a month (of course, I devoted a lot of time to them…I have a lot of time on my hands) and they’re not as “stale” because of it.

I’ve filled out basic Common App info, and put in my classes/info for UC TAG. I’ve thought briefly about essays (just general topics and what not) but won’t start those for quite some time. Other than that, I’ve found most of the transfer supplements aren’t out yet.

I plan on working on UC/CSU apps in Oct/early Nov; and then waiting till winter break for private school apps.

I started as soon as the common app came out.
this is because i have a trainwreck of a high school record, so when i’m in college, i’m STRICTLY focusing on school work so my apps won’t get in the way.

i filled in the easy portions of the common app
and did some of my essays. they’re most likely going to change.

i’m also looking at schools that my friends are going to but i’m going to wait and see if they like it or not to decide if i want to shell out a $75 app fee.
