I'm a prospective student but have an extremely busy schedule in the summer. I'm just wondering when would be a good time to visit Hopkins.

If you're planning to visit in the summer, unfortunately, according to Admission_Daniel's blog, the summer open house is full. There are two open houses in the fall - October 21st and 28th. Other than that, there are always tours and info sessions going on - check that page for dates/times.

In more broad terms, try to avoid making any college visits early (ie. before noon) on Saturdays and Sundays and probably even Fridays - most college campuses are dead quiet and you won't get a feel for the campus at all. Also, Thanksgiving week may seem like a good time to make college visits from a high school perspective, but again, most campuses will be pretty quiet since most people are trying to leave town as soon as possible.

It's probably better to go when school is in session. You really want to get a feel for the campus and student body. It is pretty dead here in the summer.

well as usual tanman got here first and stole my thunder! (Thanks for the plug of my new blog entry which discusses visiting JHU during Open Houses (here is the Permalink: http://hopkins.typepad.com/hopkins_insider/2006/07/open_houses_fri.html))

twinkletoes23: I agree with everything stated here -- try to visit while school is in session and avoid weekends if at all possible. I also suggest avoiding the start of the semester (first couple of weeks in Sept.), reading period / finals (post Thanksgiving), or during school holidays (such as Fall Break).

Check this website in mid-August (http://apply.jhu.edu/visit/visit.html) as it will be updated with dates and details for all of our Fall visit programs including Open Houses, overnights, and day visits.
