When can I start filling out the Common App?

<p>I'm aware that the Common App comes out August 1st, but I already have an account created and I have already filled out some parts of the app (like Demographics, and which school I go to, etc.). Am I allowed to do this? Or should I just wait until the August release?</p>

<p>Each college releases its own supplement - I would imagine it will be all released in August, but delays are not uncommon.</p>

<p>If you fill in anything on the current CommonApp it will be deleted once the new App is released in August.</p>

<p>I heard that the essay topics for the commonapp, so I’m probably going to start on those really soon. I know that admission officers are trying to learn more about you through your essay and why you would be a valuable asset, but how do you demonstrate this without bragging or simply restating your achievements on the commonapp?</p>

<p>smash - Every college posts its app at a different time. Some already have, some won’t until Oct and most are in between. If you really want to know about a specific school, pick up the phone and call them.</p>

<p>If you want advice on writing essays just do a search online.You will find many great articles.There are great books in the library and at bookstores.</p>

<p>Thanks for the response FlMathMom, that actually brings me to another question that I’ve always meant to ask. When is it acceptable to contact admission officers at colleges, and how do these officers view such contact (are they annoyed by it, or impressed by a students determination, etc…)? Additionally, is it ok if i email particular officers at colleges about questions i might have about a university, and how long does it normally take for these officers to reply back?

<p>smash - You certainly can contact an admissions office by phone or email, but you should avoid asking questions you can find the answers to on their website. Most probably don’t have any feeling either way unless you ask questions you can find answers to yourself or you call or write too frequently. Put yourself in their shoes. How would you react?</p>

<p>If you have a question about the Math Department or the food service you certainly can contact the responsible person directly. I would allow 10 days for an answer to account for vacations and busy schedules. I think most people prefer emails. </p>
