When can we move into Berkeley (International students)

I will be in korea this summer. i am looking to attend the international student orientatinos on august 16th.

when can students go into the dorms? I need to find this out ASAP so i can buy my flight tickets.

I need time to adjust to the time difference here, and it would be wonderful to be able to come to Berkeley around August 15th and just stay until classes begin.

Can some international students give me tips on moving in to berkeley? How did you do it?

If I recall correctly, international students get to move into dorms early.

I am also an international student in a similar situation. Will really appreciate if someone can clear up!

Are “international” students only those without US citizenship, or anyone living abroad?

It’d be good to let in inters in earlier. That’d be one thing that makes Berkeley look like it cares for its students

Yeah that is an international Jaime. I’m guessing your international too and by your name, south america?

I just asked my roommate, an international student, if she got any direction for moving in early for FL 2009. She said no–she got the same date as everyone else moving into a double. I would call to make sure.

well lets hope someone with some insight helps us out here.

You can’t move into your final dorm room early, but there is a program to let international students arrive early and be housed elsewhere until the official move in day for the dorm.

[Summer Visitor Housing](http://internationaloffice.berkeley.edu/multiple_use/summer_visitor_housing.php) - in spite of the heading it is really about housing for incoming fall students

The whole site is a nice special resource for international students. Look it over.

@Dr. P: Shanghai, actually. Though my current location’s the only part of me that’s international. But yay, an opportunity to go early or something.

no. internationals don’t get to move in early. i’m international as well, and what i did last year was stay at a malaysian upperclassman’s apartment. if you already know someone here, try asking if you could room somewhere just to save the cost. i hear the summer visitor housing for internationals is pretty bad.

i know the singaporeans here don’t attend the international orientation and only arrive a day before move-in day. just fyi

Hello guys, I think I’ll just post what I know. There are three options.

1) Triple move in date - 21st August, Double - 22nd August
You fly over any date you want before that, put up at a hotel/someone’s house/on the streets (LOL) and move in with everybody else on that date

2) You go for summer visitor housing (the link is on the berkeley international office site somewhere) which means you stay at the dorms before move in. Note that the room you will be staying in is NOT your final housing one. If you sign up, they’ll just put you up anywhere that they have space on campus. This is available 1st August to 19th August. International students who stay at summer visitor housing get PRIORITY MOVE IN ON THE 19TH OF AUGUST (no matter what kind of room you got allocated). The details are all on the berkeley international office website.

3) You’re not staying at a dorm (off campus housing). Just get there in time for lessons on 26th August. Haha.

Hope this helps! Btw I’m from Singapore and yes, I’m not going for the orientation :P

What is the LATEST we can arrive on campus by?

In time for your first classes, else you may be dropped to let in those on the waiting list.
